View Full Version : Any MST3K lovers out there?
I mentioned in an earlier post that I love any television shows that I can listen to instead of watching them (because watching TV will distract me from making purty piktchures). Mystery Science Theater 3000 was great for this as I could listen to the bots cracking their jokes all through the movie. It is probably my favorite TV show all time and I have almost all the episodes on VHS tape. If you look at the cover to Marville #2 (which has the woman with everything a man needs on it), you will notice that one of the items she is holding is a MST3K video tape!
Anyway, If you are a freak like me, answer the following questions:
What's your favorite episode(s)?
Who's your favorite characters from the movies?
What's your favorite skit involving The Satellite of love crew?
Which movie was the worst film (I mean, which one could you not sit through without Tom and Crow)?

I love MST3K... just picked up the missing collections on DVD so now I have 1 - 10 and waiting for more.
Now for the questions...
Favorite Episode - Space Phantom.... I like it JUST fine.
Favorite Character - Rausdower (or however its spelled)
Favorite Skit - too many good one for one to stick out.
Worst Movie - Manos, Hands of Fate.

Space Phantom was cool. I really love DeathStalker and the Warriors from Hell! Whoever cast this movie should be shot, but damn it's funny!! Little trivia note: the giant Incan guy from PUMAMAN also has a small part in DeathStalker. My favorite character was Mikey from Teenage Strangler-- that whimpy kid makes me crack up--what a puss! You're right about the skits, there are a lot of great ones, but two of my stand-outs are Dr. Forrester's "Unhappy Meals" and the "Tragic Moments" figurines. The worst movie is Hamlet-- it is SOOOOOOO unbelieveably boring and the sound is muffled to add to your pain.
When the show went to Sci-Fi channel it took me a while to get used to the new Crow (Trace Belieiu was the original), but he grew on me after awhile. Anyway, I used to listen to these everyday, and Betsy would come in and say "What the heck is so funny?" She thought the show was stupid for years... until I finally got her to watch a few--she loved it.

Dude, I've grown up watching MST3K, it's one of my all-time faves. Probably my favorite is The Final Sacrifice. I mean really, how can you top something with a paunchy Canadian guy name "Zap Rowsdower"?

I used to like MST3K, but it eventually got pretty thin for me. Although I imagine it is a good show for listening and not watching.
How about Space Ghost? Sort of the same type of show, and you really don't need to watch it since it is just crappy animation.
GREAT show for listening! MST was one of the most influencial comedy shows ever--I mean their jokes show up on other TV programs and movies all the time. There's a hundred examples, but off the top of my head I remember Jim Carrey fighting to the "Star Trek fighting song" in Cable Guy.
Hey James--I'm working on your sketch tonight! 8-) I used to like MST3K, but it eventually got pretty thin for me. Although I imagine it is a good show for listening and not watching.

My wife and I are both fans of the show and when I told her about this thread, she immediately said "The worst was Hamlet!", so she agreed with you Greg. She also loved the on-going skit of Pearl and Brain-Guy trying to pretend to be gods. Her favorite is the Godzilla... but she loves Godzilla.
She didn't say a favorite character... but she quotes "I like it just fine." all the time.
Ha! That is funny-- I once told my wife to "...wish in one hand, and crap in the other..." But, now I regret it because she uses it on me now. Hey does anybody know where to get the whole run of episodes on DVD? A guy was selling them at DragonCon a few years ago and I should have gotten them then.

MST3K is probably my favorite show ever. My entire sense of humor is derived from this show. And I also love to throw it on while drawing. Not that I'm a professional or anything.
I actually happened to be watching Deathstalker and the Warriors from Hell as I started reading this thread.
"They missed on the haircuts by about 1200 years." So good.
Favorite Movie: Horror at Party Beach. There are so many amazing episodes, yet for some reason I keep rewatching this one. Never gets old for me. And has amazing skits.
Favorite Character: Joe Don Baker. In all his forms.
Favorite Skit:Crow dressing up as a Solarite in the Phantom Planet and psychotically snapping, the railings in Space Mutiny, and the skits from Horror at Party Beach
Worst Movie: There are a lot of bad sixties movies in seasons 5 and 6 that even Tom and Crow can't do anything with.

About the DVDs:
Unfortunately, they've never released full seasons on DVD. Which really sucks, thought the collections would probably be like 100 bucks each if they did.
The easiest way to get them is to pirate them. I know, I know. But it is the only way to find them complete unless you buy them from a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy. And then you're just buying burned versions of the pirated seasons anyway. The MST3K Digital Archive Project really is awesome.
Ha! And what about the Potato lady in the woods! Or the over-acting villian who pauses like Shatner. And i love how you can't read the credits at the end so the bots just read it like gibberish. And the soundtrack is such shit! And the sound effects are even worse! By the way, the bodyguard in the tent is also PumaMan's mentor.
As for seasons 5 and 6 you're right--there sure are a lot of "unwatchables". Radar Secret service is real boring and so is The Amazing Transparent man. Even the jokes can't save these duds. But seasons 5-6 also have some of the best episodes like Zombie Nightmare (starring Adam West), Outlaw of Gor, and the unforgettable Wild World of Batwoman.
By the way, anyone wondering what the hell we are talking about can watch these episodes for free on Youtube! Just type in "MST3K Outlaw 1/ " and you will see Jack Palance like you've never seen him before! The episodes are split into 10 parts, and i don't think the actual movie gets going until part 2.

Just got the Vol 12 set from Amazon and watched THE STARFIGHTERS for the first time. Very funny gags about a movie that's TOP GUN without any of the plot or actually interesting things happening.
You'd be amazed how many sexual innuendos can be made during a seen of a fighter refueling in the air.
i just watched Starfighters last week on youtube.... How'd you like the "poopie suit" song?
We are flying so high in our poopie suits..
We are free to do...number 2

Just got done watching one of my favorites Hercules against the Moon Men.
DEEP HURTING
DEEP HURTING
"Noooo! Not the SANDSTORM!!"
Personally, i thought they over-reacted too soon to the sandstorm. I mean, they start freaking out as soon as it comes on the screen! Where as with the rock climbing episode from Lost Continent, they sat through a whole 10 minutes before realizing the scene was going on forever. That has always bugged me about Hercules and the Moonmen-- they should have gone about their normal riffing for a few minutes, and then get aggravated only after realizing the horrible scene is lasting forever.
Anyway, that is the episode with the line: "Today is dedicated to your anus".
I just finished watching The Incredible Melting Man. It is definitely one of the best episodes ever--top ten easy! Rich Baker does the special effects, but the goodness ends there. The "hero" of the movie is just pathetic. The best part is when The Melting Man rips off Bill Gates head! Then the bots say "Here's your Window's 95" and then his head is floating down a creek and they say " He's bucking a head wind".
Watch this one on youtube-- you can read people's comments as you watch and it is a lot of fun to see what other people are thinking!

I really enjoyed the line "You have to squint your eyes and tilt your head to make him look like Steve Reeves"

Hugh Beaumont as the Horseman of the Apocalypse is the greatest thing ever.
Yeah, he was the nicest Horseman of the Apocalypse ever. Lost Continent was probably the first episode I ever saw on Comedy Central. I remember hating the comedy relief guy-- you know, the character they kept calling "monkey boy". That got me interested because they were ripping a guy that really deserved it. His jokes were just soooo corny especially when it sounds like he wants to make a baby with his airplane. I was glad when the dinosaur killed him. GLAD I TELL YA!
