"But there ain't nobody upstairs!"

(And to think...my mother and her boyfriend took my friend Liz and I to see this when we were like...9 or 10.)

Seagal jokes aside, I really fucking loved that scene (hell, the movie too).

Not the best in my opinion though.

http://nomorequo.blogspot.com/2007/08/top-10-john-woo-shootouts.html - Lots of John Woo shootouts. He is king.

Also, I really like the shootout in Last Man standing where Bruce clears the building of gangsters to rescue a guy.

That opening chase scene in Casino Royale was one of the coolest things ever recorded on film.

I love that scene, but rifftrax does a fucking amazing job making shit out of it.

That's the main problem with most of Seagal's roles. He's supposed to be the hero, but he comes across like such an obnoxious jerkoff, that you're hoping that somebody does kick his ass.

The fact that he's a terrible actor and just looks kind or ridiculous doesn't help sell that image either.

But at least under seige was a good movie.

Eh, he's not always terrible. He's just never been great

I'm not a fan. Of this movie, or Seagal in particular. His films tend to be simply mean-spirited and brutal. No real choreography and his characters are never actually challenged. He never faces an opponent that even stands the slightest chance against him. Boooring...

This is fact. The 2 minute 42 second long steadicam shot in the hospital shootout in Hard Boiled is phenomenal.

That opening chase scene in Casino Royale was one of the coolest things ever recorded on film.
It really is fantastic. I love how Mollaka (Sebastian Foucan) is running and jumping and doing all of these stunts on what appears to be just pure, raw athletic ability and luck, but Bond is clearly thinking and strategizing his next move all through the chase. Incredibly well done.

I'm really partial to chase scenes. I do have a hard time deciding which is the king of all chase scenes though. I can narrow it to two.

The Matrix Reloaded - The Highway Scene

and

The Blues Brothers - THE Chase Scene from Lake Wasapamante to the Cook County Assessor's Office in Chicago

A few stand out though. Off the top of my head...

Equilibrium - from Cleric Preston's line "No... not without incident..." on.
Star Wars: Episode 1 - Duel of the Fates (Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan vs. Darth Maul)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - Zhang Ziyi vs Michelle Yeoh in the weapon room
Conan the Barbarian - Conan's battle in the rocks to avenge Valerian, where he takes back his father's sword.
Star Wars: Clone Wars - Mace Windu vs. a Trade Federation Droid Army
Dark City - The Final Battle
The Matrix Sequels - Burly Brawls 1 & 2
Superman II - Superman vs. Zod, Ursa and Non in Times Square
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - The Battle of Helm's Deep
Firestarter - Charlie McGee vs The Department of Scientific Intelligence (The Shop)
The Great Race - Leslie 'The Great Leslie' Gallant III vs Baron Rolfe von Stuppe
Kill Bill: pt 1 - Battle at the House of Blue Leaves
Hard Boiled - The Hospital Battle
The Matrix - The Lobby Scene
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - Enterprise Vs. Reliant in the Mutara Nebula
Star Wars: A New Hope - Escape from the Death Star & Dogfight Over the Death Star
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back - The Imperial Invasion of Hoth, Vader Vs. Luke on Bespin
Grosse Pointe Blank - Martin Blank Vs. Grosser, His Men, and the FBI at his girlfriend's dad's house.
Blade Runner - Deckard vs. Priss and Roy Batty at the Bradbury
Spider Man II - Spider-Man vs. Dr. Octopus in the fight that ends up on the train.
Batman Begins - The Batmobile Chase
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (Animated) - Aowyn vs The Witch King of the Nazgul
Terminator II: Judgement Day - Chase in the Aqueduct, T-800, Sara & John Vs. the T-1000 in the foundry.
Wallace & Gromit - Heroes vs the Penguin in The Wrong Trousers, Chase & Heroes vs. the Bulldog in A Close Shave
Hero - Nameless vs. Sky at the Teahouse
Raiders of the Lost Ark - Escaping the Hovitos Temple, Brawl at Marian's Bar, Escape from the Well of Souls to the fight at the airstrip and subsequent car chase.

and for ongoing and unceasing action sequences:

The last half of Stephen Spielberg's - 1941 AKA: The Battle of Los Angeles
Pretty much most of: It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World.

I think that is a big problem with his movies. Even people who are meant to be really powerful get their attacks slapped around with ease.

Under Siege 1 and 2 are good though :)

it's good. but it's no contest. he's just kicking ass, which is cool but I still wouldn't consider it the best action scene in film history.
