James Dean
Jim Morrison
Jeff Buckley
TuPac
Notorious B.I.G.
Marilyn Monroe

Basically, people who ‘died before their time’.
Personally, I have a hard time saying someone was ‘brilliant’ or ‘genius’ or whatever based on a limited body of work (I’m excluding all the shit that comes out after someone dies – Tupac releases more albums than some of my fav bands…and they’re alive!)

The list is missing John Lennon, who was great, and was "taken too soon."

Agreed about Lennon on both counts, but his body of work before his death was enough to establish his status -- so I didn't have to be included.

The list is missing John Lennon, who was great, and was "taken too soon."Perhaps he did not consider the greatness of Lennon to be in dispute.

James Dean - GREAT
Jim Morrison - Eh
Jeff Buckley - Did not even realize he was dead (that make me sad)
TuPac - Couldn't care less
Notorious B.I.G. - Ditto
Marilyn Monroe - Maybe. She was just such a screwed up person, it's hard to tell if she would have been able to overcome all her issues and remake herself as something other than a sex symbol.
John Lennon - GREAT.

No one on that list is anyone I particularly care about in any way, shape or form in their respective talents. So not great at all in my opinion.

Jim Morrison is great. All you who are saying he wasn't or was overated are haters.

Okay, he wasn't a great musician, but he was a great lyricist

I don't know if Morrison was great, but the Doors definately were. And since he was the driving force behind the band, I'm gonna go ahead and say he was.

I see there is not much of a Rap following on this board..
But i do agree Tupac was great, and he established himself as such, in the time he was around.

If you don't get down to "California" then you are not human. BIG was great but i had an issue with the way he rapped, just not clear and mumbled alot.
The reason these 2 are gone, is connected. So during there time the Westside/Eastside shit was going. I feel if that over sensationalized by Mtv "gang" war wasn't happening they would still be alive today.

As for the rockers, yeah they were great.
As for Overrated?? Kurt Cobain. Yeah i said it.. overrated and over-credited.
