I have an idea for a review, but it involves getting my neices and nephew together so that I can read it to them and get their reactions.
Of course, I  it.

Nice review!
I just picked up Shy Creatures at my local book shop - was good to see it on the shelf! Thoroughly enjoyed it, very Dr. Seussish. I also must admit to loving li'l apple worm's crush on Nessie! Too cute!! I liked that touch, of having the apple and worm in nearly every picture. Actually, I would have enjoyed seeing the worm on every page, perhaps 'hidden' so I had to look for it, kinda like on the last page. I dig stuff like that.
I liked how you gave a little background for all the shy creatures at the beginning of the book. Nice idea. A really young child might not appreciate it at first, but they actually are learning something here, and it'll stick with them (I'm thinking back on personal experience). And the eye boogers were TOTALLY unexpected!! But that is such a kid thing...I can hear them all going 'ewwwww!' right now.
I also felt that some of the lines didn't flow, but then I read it out loud...to myself... :scared: ....and they flowed much better. I think it's a matter of finding the right rhythm. It was a fun read, glad I picked it up. I'm going to hang onto it since it's the first of the first...don't want some kid scribbling in it with crayons... ;-)
OH! And I loved the texture of the cover. Something most people won't pick up on, but I'm such a tactile person, I did...the shiny bits are a bit 'sticky', and I found myself compelled to keep petting the cov....
nevermind. Just made myself sound like a total freak. "yes George. I will love him and hug him and pet him and squeeze him..."
Good job, David. Two freaky thumbs up!

Hey thanks for that!
Yeah, I wrote the lines in the story with a rythm I have for reading it out loud.
The way it is written makes you read it out loud slower and faster in parts so the vowels and rhymes snap out loud :)
You may notice this on my reading of it in The Alchemy of Art DVD.

I feel like this one really presents the spirit and atmosphere of the book best.

Wow...yer still talkin' to me after my book-petting admission.... :scared:
I haven't seen the Alchemy of Art yet. It's on my list...
Of course, you could always send me one...ya know...for me not tellin' everyone about that box of boobs you have in the attic.... ;-)
(Have you ever seen the Brit version of Coupling? You remind me of Jeff and his bucket of ears..."I insulted her friend's breasts, and she thinks I collect women's ears in a bucket." ) Now I gotta change my sig...

What issues of Kabuki is this book mentioned in? I know you told me ...not sure if it's in the ones you gave me or not....
(yes, yes, yes...I DO plan on reading them! Damn BenBo!! It's sucking up all my time!)

Das,
I'm going to include your post in the letters collumn of KABUKI: The ALchemy #9 or Reflections #9 if that is ok with you.
What city and state should I list, and what name would you like to have in it?

Hey if you're talking about the one that begins - "Originally tucked inside David Mack's long running comic book master piece, Kabuki.." then I wrote that one!
Something tells me people are going to be discovering this book for a long, long time to come.

I know! And thank you for it!
You are a good writer, and presented it in a really clear and interesting way.
