Updated: 22:19, Friday August 10, 2007
The TV presenter Tony Wilson, one of the leading lights in the Manchester music scene, has died of cancer at the age of 57.
Tony Wilson: CancerMr Wilson, who set up the Factory Records label and the Hacienda Club, was associated with groups like New Order and the Happy Mondays.
He was also a reporter and presenter on TV and radio in the Manchester area.
His life was depicted in the film 24 Hour Party People.
He had been suffering from kidney cancer.
Mr Wilson was surrounded by family at his when he passed away.
I loved this man. He was a totally useless businessman who, almost accidently, gave the world Joy Division, New Order, The Happy Mondays, and, as a result, modern Britpop.
I think I'll watch 24 Hour Party People with his commentary on tonight.
