Would you "do" a Skrull? [Archive]

Well, the big news this month is: Elektra's a Skrull. For those of you not "in the know", a Skrull is an alien shape-shifter who assumes the likeness of an existing person. Then they put said person on ice, and take their place. Why? Because they can! How far back does the faux Elektra go? Nobody yet knows. I'm just hoping it doesn't go back to my run on the covers. That would just be weird. Anyway, here is my painting of Elektra/Skrull in mid-transformation--I was extremely intimidated by the green-corrugated-roof chin, but my recent thread on the Bendis board "Would you "do" a skrull?" got some exuberantly positive replies... so, I'm going to assume I did a good job... or perhaps the bendis board guys will "do" anything with a hole and heartbeat--disgusting bastards they are! Anyway, I really like how Wizard blew her up large on the cover--it looks like a Maxim issue!

I look at this as a positive... its like Mystique.. 'doing' a Skrull means you could be 'doing' someone different every night... Milla Jovovich on Monday, Jenna Jamison on Tuesday, Bea Arthur on Wednesday, etc...

Anyway, I am the admin on an RPG, and I write Elektra....trust me, she's alive and well! And very true to the Miller comics....most specifically, Elektra Assassin.

But I also LOVE the ones that you have done and I now have them all - amazing work!!!!!

Were you talking to me? I LOVE Elektra, she is my favourite character! My don't kill Elektra message is to Marvel and Bendis because of the whole Skrulektra affair. I do have a horrible feeling that she is a goner, but what would be even worse if they go far back with the retcon and say she has been a Skrull since her original resurrection! I hope Miller raises HELL if they pull that garbage! She had better not be a goner, I'll protest it! LOUDLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But if they say that she has been an alien all this time, then.....I'll be writing Marvel daily, and I know alot of others that will be writing in too!

Emails, Letters, Boycots, you name it. I know.....

And no one I know likes this one bit.

This "Aliens taking over our favourite comic charcters" is going to make Marvel lose alot of readers.
It will probably make many quit buying comics from Marvel all together if they keep this up.....

I won't be buying or reading the Skrulektra crap though, I can tell you this.

As soon as one of my favs turns alien, I'm finished with the series of that character.

They say that Elektra has been a Shrull since her ressurection, I'm through buying Marvel.

I have about Half, and I'm NOT buying the ones with the alien stuff....as far as I'm concerned, they don't exist and I won't even be reading them.....since they are not writing the real Elektra that we all love, then I won't be giving marvel my money!

Yay, there is someone who is as angry about Skrulektra as me!! I will join you in the Marvel protest if they pull a massive retcon, it would be the clone saga all over again! Comics wise I need issues 2 & 3 of The Root of All Evil mini and her appearance in Punisher and I think that will be everything.

I SO need to get "Everything Old is New Again," as well as a bunch of others.

Again, though...I won't be buying the Skrulektra ones though, nor will I be reading them.
Looks like I'm only going to be buying the older ones from here on out, sad....but this really makes me want to puke.

There seems to be an epidemic of "Writer's Block" at Marvel I would suppose

Greg Rucka's run on Elektra was great, he was trying to move her in a different direction but i think editorial didn't like it. Also get hold of Mark Millar's Wolverine run; it should have been called Wolverine and Elektra because she features so prominently and she is totally amazing in it! You will be able to get all of them in tpb and they are well worth it.
The whole Skrull thing is going to be very difficult to pull off. There is a chance for mass alienation of fans (no joke intended). I've got my fingers crossed and holding on to that tiny chance that she aint dead again!

Maybe you should offer to illustrate her rescue! Draw Ms Marvel, Emma Frost and She Hulk busting her out of a Skrull safe house and whooping those green skinned freaks. Marvel couldn't possibly say no to something like that!

So I know I'm a little late in the game, but I just have to say that that right there would upset me beyond belief. That was the first thing I thought of when I found out she was a skrull: "..well then, how long has THAT been going on?".

Elektra is one of my favorite characters and always has been. The way she's been written over the years has been executed so well as to really develop her character. She started out as a romantic foil for murdock and has grown into an amazingly strong and interesting character in her own right. "Revoking" all of that character development and basicaly throwing out everything that all the writers that have written her have put into her...would probably be enough to make me drop not just that marvel book, but all of them. The last 6 months? The last year? I could deal with, infact, it might be a very interesting twist. But the last 25 years? Gah.

Beyond the story aspect, there lies a respect issue. Is it "OK" to take someone else's creation and all of a sudden say "yeah well, everything that you've done and that those after you have done is void, she was a skrull, the REAL Elektra is...."? I wouldn't think so. A lot of people have put a lot of time and energy into building Elektra into the character that she is, to throw it all away is not only a story nightmare but it strikes me as extremely disrespectful to those people and their work.

All that aside: I'm a straight girl but I gotta say (how I feel about the whole "skrull thing" aside)...that is one hot alien.

Totally agree Marvel Girl. What you point out is going to cause huge problems with this Skrull storyline. There is going to be a lot of fans that are going to be pissed off if their favourite character is revealed as a fake!

She is the best, and I think they are making a terrible mistake as well. And there are MANY of us out here that think so as well 'writers.' Sorry "re-writers' I should say.

I said "IF" it's been going on for 25 years-- IF! its probably only been going on for a few years (like 2 or 3)-- I didn't realize I was going to send all my Elektra fans spiralling into depression when I made this statement!! I'm feeling kinda bad now...:cry:
