yes. most of the comparisons are accurate. there is a certain crazy mentality or forced desperation to voluntarily signing up to fight a war with questionable means. It doesn't mean that all soldiers have this mentality and it doesn't mean that they attack civilians (which admittedly is the grisliest part of this comic) but he is trying to make a point about how we label the same characteristics differently in war depending on which side we are on, and he is using hyperbole to do so.

That's one of my favorite strips of his. He's really at his best when he's using absurdity to point out very real facts of modern-day politics. Too often it seems like he's just blindly expressing outrage or worse, haranguing the reader.
