Da-ham! I love this thing! Cintiq is the best thing that ever happened to digital art. Check it out—the wacom pen tablet and the screen are combined to make…. Drumroll… ELECTRONIC PAPER!! Can you see my unfettered joy?!

I first heard of this invention about 4 or 5 years ago, but I refused to pay so much for something I could not get a demo on. I mean, what if it sucked? And you could only buy it through Wacom, so it wasn’t like I could get an easy return at Wal-Mart or something. Anyway, At Megacon 2007 Phil Noto told me that he had purchased one while working for Disney, and after about a week it was like second nature to him. He had heard that Wacom would be at Wizard’s LA show in March, and sure enough they were there with demo models. Nobody was even trying them out—Philistines! I tried the tablet and admittedly it was slightly disorientating because the glass surface creates a separation between the pen tip and the actual digital cursor. But then I though of the alternative I’ve been suffering with for about 7 years now—drawing on a conventional tabletop tablet while looking up at a monitor. It sucks balls! The best thing is that the monitor has a full integrated tilt—meaning you can spin the monitor around 360 degrees—just like you might do while drawing on paper.
