I'm holding a few signature competitions on my new message board and somebody just posted Elektra #6. This just happens to be one of the most popular MSN/group images of all time. I think it has something to do with the fact that she is telling people to be quiet on a message board--
Anyway, Bendis designed this cover (Elektra #6 the silent issue).

Essentially, he took Elektra #2 into Photoshop, flipped it over, cropped it, and then put a weird orange blob next to her face. I was like Brian what is that thing? He said oh, that's her hand going "shhhhhh" .... it looked really deformed... like a leper's hand or something...

Did he then say something along the lines of "You're the artist, artist it up!".

Yeah, after I made fun of his leper hand, he told me to stop being an A-hole and draw a pretty picture.

That reminds me...

I've always wanted to ask if Monica Bellucci was your inspiration for Elektra.

If so, that MIGHT have inspired the producers of Daredevil to give HER the part... which would've been very cool indeed. Would've made for a much better film, I think. Plus, Monica has that Mediterranean look, which is always nice.

Anyway, that face is quite stunning.

I was thinking Jennifer Lopez would have been a good Elektra, but your suggestion kicks the shit out of that--Monica Bellucci would have made a fantastic Elektra! Did you know she's nekid in Dracula? Just a little fun fact for you. Anyway, she is NOT the inspiration for my Elektra paintings.... buuuut, I did paint a "Dream G.I. Joe" piece for Wizard mag, and they requested Ms Bellucci as The Baroness. Check it.

That is frickin incredible. Wow. Has she seen that (TBOYK)? She mos def should. Should I FWD?

So I guess you know she WAS offered the part of Elektra, but had to decline because Tears of the Sun was way over-schedule. Then the LXG guys offered her Mina Harker, which she wisely turned down... although she woulda rocked as another sultry, um... vampiress. She actually knows quite a bit about funny books, as does her husband (that most fortunate chap).

So yeah, lucky Keanu got to do TWO "love scenes" with MB... and the first one was pretty much totally nude.

And he actually got PAID for that????

Yeah sure you can forward it. The piece was a visual companion to Wizard magazine's interview with movie producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura (not spelled right probably). I believe he was president of WB for a while (they say he was "in charge" of The Matrix, Training Day, and Harry potter..what ever "in charge" means). Anyway, in the article he wanted to produce the G.I. JOE movie and I drew up his dream cast. I had to do this one pretty quick--about 2 i/2 days, so it could have been a LOT better! See if you can figure out who the other actors are.

PS My mistake--the feature was in Toyfare #81

Viggo, obviously. Jennifer Garner?

Clearly, that's gotta be Bendis under Cobra Commander's hood.

Actually, come to think of it, a G.I. Joe flick has a lot of potential... if they don't camp it up too much. (They've already mad a mess of He-Man, so there's nowhere to go from here but up.) If Transformers has taught Hollywood anything, it would seem to be that most people are more than glad to cue up for a film - no matter how bizarre - as long as it's entertaining.

Actually, Brian told me a story about a meeting with producers (or some big wigs like that) and all my comic book covers were spread out on the table! They said "We want Elektra to look like that!" So...how they ended up with Jennifer Garner i don't know. I guess she was a hot commodity back then on ALIAS.
Then they used one of my costume designs as "inspiration" for Elektra's outfit. i'm still waiting for my check.

Bendis probably knows the details about Bellucci being offered the role, and why she turned it down. If you've seen Brotherhood of the Wolf, you'll know how dangerous she can be :scared:

Yeah, I can see why the producers were keen on Jen... and, as it all turned out, so was her co-star. Bellucci woulda played her a LOT colder.

When you mentioned the costume, you reminded me of that legend surrounding the creation of Spidey's costume. Allegedly, it was designed by none other than Eric Stanton himself

Ditko still denies it, but credible sources swear it's true.

[I've always believed that the artist should be entitled to royalties for designing logos, costumes, etc.]
