Since I started working at Marvel back in 2001, I became aware of an online hobby called sigging (the making of signatures). Essentially, this is a hobby where you cut and paste existing art into new designs. These new images serve as a unique visual identity when posting on newsgroups. Some artists hate this hobby as people are mucking around with their art, but I think it is pretty cool to see people inspired by your work enough to make a hobby out of it. As long as it's a non-profit hobby, its cool. Besides, sigging is largely a female hobby, and I can now boldy claim to have a "Army of Women".
Anyway, anyone wanting to post a sig may post on this thread and hopefully we can get some feedback from other hobbyists.

1) All sigs must credit the original artist (me) with "c of Greg Horn" or "www.greghornjudge.com"
2) (optional) PSPers can place a clickable text link to www.greghornjudge.com on their website, web page, or group forum. Disregard the recent decree from MSN--there is NO nudity or partial nudity at my website. Tell MSN, Greg Horn says "suck it"
3) Keep animated sigs under 500 kb please.
4) Do not post tubes here-- I want to see your final creation!

HOW TO POST A SIG!!!!! It's easy!
1 upload your sig to a hosting service like Photobucket.com or imageshack.com
2 using their service you can copy the website address (URL) of the file. Example: http://photobucket.com/yourname/yourfile.gif
3 On the message board thread, click "post reply"-- this brings up a text field with a bunch o buttons
4 One of the buttons is yellow with a mountain on it (this is the "insert picture" button)-click it and A little grey window comes up where you can paste the address-- and then hit ok
5 The address should appear in the big text field like this
"[IMG]http://photobucket.com/yourname/yourfile.gif [IMG/]"
Those IMG things tell the message board that you are trying to display an image. Won't work without them.
6 Finally, make sure that "http://" is not typed twice...this will not work

YEAH! This forum is fantastic! It was really tough answering everybody on my yahoo account. Then I tried to move everybody to Myspace, but that didn't work because there's no forum thread system. I agree! I really like the design of this one. Its well balanced and the monotone effect keeps the left side (and background) from overpowering the rest.

Diane emailed me this ShadowHunter sig a few days ago and i liked it so much i told her to post it here. I see you brought along some friends--are you all part of the same group? Anyway, the composition works great with the low saturation blue-tinting. Also the fading of the three Jenna figures blend very well together-- I should make a wall paper like this for my website!

That's a cool Elektra sig. The intense looking face is actually from the opening spread page of my art book! anyway, here's a sig that was created for a competition I judged a few years ago. I had this one pretty high design-wise and I also liked the fact that an uncommon illustration was used to make the sig.

All the psp groups are saying that you are now a pay-for-use artist and that everyone of us taggers are not allowed to use ANY of your work any longer to make tags unless we pay. I was told I have to delete all my tubes and anything I made that has your work in it! Is this true? What happened?

Hi Scarlett, Yes, I have recently joined Creative. As you know, everything was free for 4 or 5 years, but the internet situation has gotten so out of control (especially myspace and ebay) that i had to finally take action. Not your fault of course, but I'm completely unable to keep track of usage by myself, so I really needed to hand it over to someone who's business this is. Its the only way i can protect my own art! That said, there can be no split in the decision, so eventually everything will be PTU. I'm sure this is a real bummer for you and your fellow members, but i hope they understand this is a decision I made for my family and career. In the meantime, don't throw your stuff away! Most groups can pool together for PTU. Additionally, in two months time there will be custom packages available so you can pick and choose individual tubes instead of getting a bunch of stuff you are not interested in.

I'll change my signature and start deleting Greg. There are tons of other artists that don't charge for their art that I can use in tags.
I only do this when I have some down time and I make these for people as gifts etc. It usually takes hours to create these tags and they are used by people who only use them in private emails and on private forums and private groups.
If I was getting paid for my work creating these tags I would feel much different. But spending hours making them and giving them away free to whoever wants one, and then having to pay for the "materials" too? Doesn't make much sense to me. I have another hobby besides this. Its photography. It cost me money for materials too BUT I can sell my work and make a profit. My best friends hobby is knitting. She has to pay for materials too, but she also makes a profit from her hobby. However signature tag makers are expected to pay to make these? I just honestly don't see the point. I can see paying for your work to hang on my wall or have framed on my desk. Or even on my coffee mug or writing paper or notebooks etc. But to pay for something to play in photoshop with? And to post where basically no one see it? I do have a couple of payfor artists. I have unlimited Anthony G. because I bought some artwork from him a few years back and he added me to his unlimited users list and I have one more that I won a tube pack of in a private msn group I belong to. I didn't actually buy them tho, as I said, I just don't see the point. But I still love you.

Now because you have gone FULL pay at Anthonys group you will have to delete every tag from here and your website that doesn't have a license number on it right? Isn't that part of Creative's TOU that EVERY tag HAS to have a license number on it? Just wondering...
