Yeah, it's tough to find music quite like them. Their album is quite good. If you don't mind somehing a little harder and more screamy, try Mastodon's album Leviathan. If you don't mind something a little slower, sludgier, and more Sabbathy, try Sleep. The two albums to get by them would be Sleep's Holy Mountain, and Dopesmoker, the second of which is a single 63 minute song, which is totally rad, even though it never really deviates from its single riff. I guess, other than that, you might try Master of Puppets, by Metallica, though I think Age of Winters is much better. Also, strange suggestion perhaps, but Pinkerton by Weezer is just barely on the poppier side of The Sword.

The Sword remind me of Early Man and Voivod in certain ways, so I'd suggest them. Mastodon is a fantastic band, but I wouldn't say they're too much like The Sword outside of the first song off their most recent album, Blood Mountain, which happened to my album of the year last year. :D

Doomriders is good. Its way more punk, but its got some of the same elements. Saviours is more Slayer-esque, but they might help feed the monkey. Also, for fans of heavy music, check out Every Time I Die. Fast, energetic, rocking metal.

ETID isn't really metal, more like a screamo type of thing, but I love 'em. New album September 4...

Now let's not go and start using the S-word....ETID is much, much better than that. But yeah, can't wait for the Big Dirty. They got a track up on their myspace, but I haven't had the chance or internet connection to check it out yet.

It's always time to revisit Soundgarden's Badmotorfinger.

Yeah, I'd second the Early Man recommendation, though they're much more Iron Maiden-y than The Sword are. Voivod are good (or at least Nothingface is a good album, though I haven't heard their other stuff), but it doesn't remind me a lot of The Sword.

Actually, I think I've found exactly what you're looking for. The album you need is called Blessed Black Wings, by the group High on Fire. It's the guitarist from the aforementioned Sleep, but it's a lot faster and more Sword-like. Probably the closest thing to The Sword that I've heard. Though you should also check out Ace of Spades by Motorhead, just to see where it all got its start.

Damnit, Dusto beat me to it.

Blessed Black Wings is fantastic stoner-esque doom.

There's also a video for "Blessed Black Wings" but it's NSFW.

Some good choices so far...but I'll also add:

Cathedral is a good stoner/doom band to check out.

They have a double cd that's half retrospective/half rareties that's cheap and worth getting:

Also worth getting is the Orange Goblin album called The Big Black.

Also...not quite stoner/doom, but you should check Neurosis out if you like sludgier atmospheric metal. Good lord do they kill.

And The Melvins...you need some Melvins.

Just played with two bands this week that you should definitely check out.

Kingdom Of Magic (http://www.606studios.com/bendisboard/www.myspace.com/kingdomofmagic) from Denver, Colorado and Buried Blood (http://www.myspace.com/buriedblood)from Portland, OR. Kingdom is good, although they could use a little more energy live. The singer isn't the best but the riffs are good. Buried Blood however is amazing. Their guitarist fucking rips and their singer is a girl that sounds somewhere between Sabbath-era Ozzy and Grace Slick. Definitely want to check them out live if you ever get the chance. They're album should be coming out soon, but the pre-mastered version of it will tide me over until then.

Hell yeah they are. Their guitarist is amazing to watch live. And nice people, too.
