That was AWESOME!

If the video had included the scene with the giant zombie stuffed animals that bleed milk, I'd say that was a reedit that included all the parts of Akira worth watching.

These days to sit through this movie I have to turn the volume down, crank some Afex Twin or DJ Shadow, and drop acid.

But the animation is still fantastic 20yrs later.

Thats along the same lines as my dad showing my nephew (who is 9) the old animated film Wizards. It's all nazis and stuff but he is still like 'Yeah Cool!' cause he has no idea whats going on lol.

my same reaction when i saw the movie. didn't really get ti till iread the manga and got older.

the obvious problem of creating a feature length movie based on manga that still had around 1,000 pages to go before concluding.

of special interest, Dark Horse finally released a book I dreamed would get a domestic release years ago; Akira Club!

this book was originally released in Japan many moons ago. it contains all the chapter art from Akira's run in Jump magazine along with behind the scenes material, deleted pages (some editorial, some reworked from the Jump mag runs to collections), paintings, and other stuff. this is the must have book for any manga fan or anyone who loves great art. I really miss Otomo doing comics. I think the last comic he drew was for that batman black & white series. sigh...
