Obviously, Hallelujah is up there, or else it wouldn't be covered by about half the artists in existence, but what else?

I have to second The Future. Recognizable for having been used as the ending credits for 'Natural Born Killers' the album track is longer with a few more verses. The soundtrack version however has Cohen on the end going "Wait wait wait wait time cut cut cut cut cut!! It's a fuckin' joke, right?"

Everybody Knows has the virtue of having been used as the opening credits for 'Pump Up The Volume'. Lots of good music in that picture.

I would not, however, recommend 'Closing Time'.

I'm probably going to buy this myself but the Essential Leonard Cohen seems like a good deal.

It got a five-star review for Rolling Stone, and has 31 songs for $15.http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Leonard-Cohen/dp/B00006NSH8/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-4452033-5223243?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1183435497&sr=8-1

Suzanne is one of the few songs by him that I don't wish was sung by someone else. His voice works perfectly on it and it's an amazing song.

Another one of his best songs is Famous Blue Raincoat, although I much prefer the Tori Amos cover of it.

so I got this album and it's awesome, except there are like 3 songs on the first disc are skipping, and I bought the damn thing new too

Everybody knows is probably my favorite song of his, at least so far.

The cut cut cut isn't cohen , it's robert downey jr from the film.
It's when they are going to shoot him at the end.

hmmm ... I actually love closing time (but i may be in the minority on that one)

I agree with everyone else's suggestions along with
waiting for the miracle, dance me to the end of love and anthem.

Whenever I hear Tower Of Song, I always think Cohen would be an excellent film narrator.

Like Sam Elliot and James Earl Jones, he was a very distinctive voice.

Check out the documentary I'm Your Man, anyone that hasn't already.

There is a crack in everything
that's how the light gets in

that is truly one of the most beautiful lyrics ever.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Land Of Plenty. Wim Wender's used this at the end of his post 9/11 movie from 2005 (and got permission from Cohen to use it as the title of the movie). There's also a good song used over the end credits that Cohen wrote just for the movie called The Letter.

Land Of Plenty, the movie is also an excellent movie that sadly next to no one has seen (very low, next to no distribution) and has one of the best commentary tracks I've ever listened to by Wim Wenders.

All I heard by him is the Future, which I liked. You should get the whole Natural Born Killers soundtrack.
