I wasn't a huge fan of the first season, but Spike and Captain Jack together should be pretty nifty.

A really bad fake accent would be a high point if S2 is as good as most of S1 ;)

Just spend the time imagining what the show will be like. Jack will be on the roof, a giant testicle will be killing people in Cardiff and only Cardiff, someone will shag someone else, we'll wonder where the real Jack is.

Yup, same here. There was more "mature" writing in the recent Family Of Blood/Human Nature two-parter in Dr Who than in the entire first season of Torchwood put together.

Doctor Who Spinoff. Imagine the X-Files had a spinoff about the Smoking Man, or Deep Space Nine had a Spinoff about Section 31. All theconspiracy theories are right. The Government fights aliens.

The hero of the story, and leader of Torchwood, and former assistant to Doctor Who is basically Captain Scarlett with a universal-fetish lost in the here and now from the 50th century and very melancholy about it.

Torchwood is an anagram for Doctor Who.

To all the Torchwood haters the producers know that series 1 was a bit of a misfire, it only started to improve towards the end when RTD got more hands on with the show, and is being retooled for series 2.
They are even delaying its debut to give them more time to get it right.
Let's just wait and see if they do.

James has an American accent. Captain Jack has an American accent. Not similar. But the future is a big place. Could Jim be up to playing a Time Agent?

Remember Jack's origin. Someone stole two years from his memory. So he quit being a time cop to find the buggers who stole his life. It's a classic story device which needs some dealing to.

What kinda bothers me is that Torchwood isn't being allowed to have any integrity as a show. Threads such as the severed hand in the jar and Jack's newfound immortality are being adressed in the last Dr Who ep. For all we know, his two missing years will be resolved in the Who finale.

why put "mature" in inverted commas?

there was nothing mature about torchwood. it was all sex and swearing. that's the very definition of immature.

no they don't. russell T davies gave an interview at the end of it all wherein he said that torchwood did great in the ratings so they obviously did everything absolutely right. that the reviews in the papers were mainly positive and all the haters were just geeks on the internet that don't matter.

well... exactly. I don't think they're allowed to address any of this stuff in Torchwood... anything interesting about Captain Jack will only be revealed on Doctor Who.

I don't think so. There's going to be at least one story in which we see Jacks childhood and they've already revealed some stuff like Jack Harkness not being his real name.

BBC Reveal Torchwood Series 2 Details

The BBC has this morning revealed details of the second series of Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood which, like the parent show, will feature a range of special guest stars.

Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), Gwen (Eve Myles), Owen (Burn Gorman), Tosh (Naoko Mori) and Ianto (Gareth David-Lloyd) all return as the close-knit team of investigators solving alien and human crimes as they delve into the underworld of modern day Cardiff.

The high-octane storylines, filmed in and around Cardiff, include Torchwood's encounter with a rogue Time Agent; a tragic time-slip from World War One; and a memory-thief who uncovers long-forgotten secrets among the entire team

As well as Doctor Who star Freema Agyeman the series will see appearances by James Marsters who starred as Spike, the punk-goth vampire, in Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel and Alan Dale who is currently appearing in Ugly Betty as Bradford Meade. Dale is also well known for his roles in The O.C., Lost, The West Wing and as Jim Robinson in the Australian hit soap Neighbours.

Dale described himself as "thrilled to be working on Torchwood and delighted to be in England again. I am a huge fan of British television drama."

Marsters, who will appear in the opening episode of the series, says his character is "naughty and a bit of a psychopath."

Creator and Executive Producer Russell T Davies said: "filming is well underway in Cardiff, and we're aiming to make the show bigger and bolder than ever, as we move to our new home on BBC Two.

"It's too early to start giving things away, but we've got some amazing guest stars, fearsome new aliens, and compelling new storylines that will push the Torchwood team further than ever before."

The 13-part series is written by Chris Chibnall, Catherine Tregenna, Helen Raynor, James Moran, Joseph Lidster, Peter J Hammond, JC Wilsher and Matt Jones.

I'm confused... I've only seen a few episodes of the new(ish) Doctor Who... and Jack was on there helping out in on of them (where the human suit wearing alien lady wanted to surf away and the city was going to be destroyed or something). I didn't see his introduction or anything. But it seemed like all good timey fun.

But everything I've read on here makes Torchwood seem like an anal orgy, which seems odd considering how all-ages Who is. It's a spin off of Doctor Who, though, right? And this is the same character? Usually spin off's are similar to the shows they spin off of in terms of "ratings" or whatever, aren't they? It doesn't seem like younger fans of Who could watch this show... which makes it kind of odd to even associate them, then.

Why don't I just Wikipedia this? B/c I'm lazy and get all my info from lurking on this board.

It's a "mature" spinoff of Doctor Who. Mature generally meaning they fight giant penis sex monsters or something.
