Well in the announcement trailer for Halo 3 the Covenant was digging something out of the ground in Africa. So it's obvious now that 100,000 years ago the Forerunners placed something on Earth.

Halo definitely has the best backstory of any of the first-person shooters. But I really wish there wasn't so much focus on the Flood, the Covenant and the Forerunners are so much cooler.

Looks great! Can't wait for the full issue! I'd recommend the Halo novels if you like the story and are hungry for more. Take a pass on the one that retells the first game though.

I hope this game is about Master Chief. Arbiter levels were annoying and pointless.

Was not a big fan of the graphic novel, I think I liked 2 stories of the whole thing. I like the books a whole lot better than the GN. My favorite is still Reach which you can hopefully play in Halo Wars.

I just hope bungie doesn't fuck the biscuit like they did with Halo 2. Gamespot has a interview with one of Halo's creators and he admits Halo 2 was really an overwhelmingly underpar sequel and that he can't muster himself to play it sometimes.

Fingers totally crossed for Halo 3.

There is too much story. The story pages on halo.bungie.org should help catch you up or even maybe Halo's Wikipedia entry.

If you take into account Marathon, the Cortana letters, I Love Bees, and all that optional stuff, the Halo mythology is HUGE.

Speaking of, I hope they do something similar to I Love Bees to promote Halo 3.

Well, the game is called Halo. And the flood are an integral part of the Halo itself. I think Halo 2 concentrated very much on the Covenant though, and it did it very well.

It's actually got a pretty badass story, but the thing is, the games dont have a ton of exposition. Most of the story exists in the background and through simple storytelling, very much like Metroid (although I think the Metroid mythology is much cooler, the actual plot of Halo is better).

I agree, I think Halo 2 did the Covenant so well that everytime the Flood came up I was wishing it was the Covenant instead. I'll admit that Gravemind was pretty cool, but I think Halo 2 would have been better if it had cut the Flood out altogether.

How does Halo 2 work on the 360, by the way? I never actually owned an Xbox, I just mooched off my roommates in college, but I'm feeling pretty nostalgic right now and don't want to wait until September.

Its pretty good. I never played it on the Xbox, but it looks pretty nice on 360. I heard it was the one game they spent the most time updating to look good. It was a bit choppy sometimes, but it was still pretty good. I enjoyed it.

There are 3 novels that are quite good, Fall of Reach, First Strike, and Ghosts of Onyx. If you read those and dig em there is some great stuff in the graphic novel. The mini that Bendis and Maleev are doing will bridge Halo 2 and 3 together.

Get comfortable, because you're going to be reading a LOT.

Personally, I think Cortana is experiencing rampancy...which is a concept pretty firmly established in Marathon. Also worthy of note is that the Halo 3 trailer used a quote taken from the Cortana Letters and modified.

In the graphic novel there are 2 worthy of reading, everything else doesn't contribute anything to the story or the mythos...just boringness.

Meh I think Halo 2's story was the worst of them all, I hated it.

The books are the highlight of the mythos for me. Fall of Reach is by far the best story next to Halo 1. First strike was 'okay'.\

I hope Bendis' mini fixes the Halo 2 ending and badness of story-telling.

Where the hell could you find the Cortana Letters anyways, I heard about them but never really looked into them.

I just felt it was really cheap. They hyped the game up so much and I was thinking it was going to be a godsend and I played through the campaign and all of a sudden I am taken off of earth in 15 min and placed on another Halo where I am doing the SAME thing I did in the 1st game.

Then all of a sudden I am playing as an Elite on a useless mission to kill some bug-eyed heretic. Not to mention more of the story is on the arbitor's side which pissed me off even more because the game promised so much of Chief and Earth.

Gravemind...most random character...ever.

After about 5 hours of play you fight as the arbitor and then you defeat tartarus thinking you're going to play as chief once again on earth as in, that was not the last level. Then you get a cheesy ending like "what are you doing here chief?"..."Finishing this fight".

The game delivered on none of the grounds we were promised and Bungie has admitted and apologized for it publicly in interviews and especially at Gamespot.

It wouldn't have been a surprise if they told you, you were going to play as the Arbiter. Master Chief's portion of the game pushed the story along, the Arbiter's told the covenant's side of the story.

I'm not so sure. The gamespot thing is an article Edge magazine is where they pulled the quotes from. Gamespot calls the ending lackluster here is what Frankie says

"we drove off Thelma & Louise style" “Toward the end we were working on balancing the weapons and everybody was very vocal about a ton of things and I think eventually we just sort of polished away some of those hard edges.".

As far as saying that they can't play it. That's a different guy, and he's talking about the multiplayer not the single player.

Usually Gamespot updates their articles if they are incorrect and you would think he would say something about it in the Bungie blog not in another interview.

Edge Magazine also never had a follow up either. You would think if Frankie was mis-quoted then he would do it on his own damn blog.

They don't retract their statements, they keep them there but elaborate on them. I do not see how this refutes the gamespot link. The Bungie team is still disappointed with what they put out story-wise.

Not to mention the ending is spoofed and ridiculed universally everywhere in fan media.

In the end its an opinion thing and Halo 2 is just too incomplete for me to go back and play through again.
