It doesn't seem to exist.:surrend:

I can get special extended cuts, widescreen on DVD...

Original cuts, fullscreen on DVD...

Original cuts, widescreen on VHS...

Super-special slamma-jamma cramma fulla extras DVD, with no original 140 minute cut....

But not the original movie, on DVD, widescreen.

Can ANYONE find this???:-x :-x :-x :-x

Why do you want it?

I can't think of any other cut-for-time on a film that so fundamentally altered the actual point of the story for the worse.

(Oh, and I have no idea where you could get one. :surrend:)

I'm pretty sure the snazzy version has both versions of the film. At least mine does.

I'll second this, the originals' storyline barely makes sense as it is.

Dude, just look for the original release used or something. It has both versions.

I actually prefer the theater release.

The extended cut is overlong and overblown. Though the end suffers for some of the cuts.

As already mentioned, the original DVD release had the theatrical & extended versions on the same disc via seamless branching. Fox still needs to release an anamorphic version, but that's beyond the point...

The original is better than the extended version, imo.

I don't think the huge tidal wave and the alien's preachy text speech adds anything to the film.

Good to hear what I'm hearing though. None of the places you can buy this (amazon, ebay, half) say there is a choice to watch the original cut. They all just say it's the "171 minute running time" when I want the 140.

I'll snag the original release (special ed) and hope it has the one I want on it.

Theatrical Matte Option? I'm guessing it's this one...

Thirded on the theatrical cut being worthless. It's not just a fundamentally richer experience seeing the extended footage; it's actually completely essential for the ending to make even an ounce of logical sense.

:mistrust: Except for, you know, the entire point of the story, the reason it exists at all.

I mean, you like what you like, but, damn, the whole rest of the movie is leading up to the ending in the uncut version.

Yeah, except a message that is crammed down our throats with the added 31 minutes of footage (with, minus the 6 minutes of tidal wave at the end) that is ALREADY there... in a subtle way.

Seriously, getting lectured to by jellyfish just so we know can leave the theatre saying, "oh, so we should be good to each other?? I had no idea!" That's what I have a mother for. Turns it from brilliant to preachy.

But I'll watch it again. You could be right. :)

I believe my copy has both original and uncut in widescreen. I'll have to double check and let you know.
