My son is wanting a Star Wars game that has either Jedis or Siths (preferably Darth Maul) as playable characters that use their lightsabers in battle. He really likes Legos Star Wars, which I actually had a helluva time playing myself.

Does anyone know if there is a GameCube game that uses playable characters with lightsabers, especially Darth Maul, if there is such a game, preferably rated Teen or less. I'm not ready to let my son play Mature games yet.

I somewhat remember a game my friend had on PS2, that had Darth Maul in it, but it was a "free roam" kind of like X-Men Legends, but can't remember the name of it.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Star Wars BattleFront 2-- and it rules.

I'm a sucker for the Lego Star Wars games (BOTH of them) as well. My wife and I are currently playing through that game together, collecting all the special items.

Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is a great game with lot of lightsabers and some of the best in game duels I've seen. Unfortunately you'll have to wade through a bit of the game before you get a saber and get to duel anyone, but once you do, it's practically all you'll use!

Also, Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is extremely fun, though not quite as good as Jedi Outcast. The biggest difference (that your son will probably notice) is that you get a lightsaber almost immediately.

Both are rated T.

That's what it was . . . that might be a bit much for him, as far as what's going on, what I remember of playing the game. Thanks for the reminder.

How old is your son? Jedi Outcast is awesome, but there's a very steep learning curve before you even get your first lightsaber. Also if he's mostly a fan of the movies, he won;t see too many familiar faces. Luke is the only one I can think of, and even he shows up about 1/3 through the game. It can also be very intense. Honestly I would suggest the second Lego Star Wars game. He liked the first and if you still have your saves on the memory card I think you can play as the characters from the first game too (including Darth Mauk)

Battlefront didn't come out for the Gamecube. Here's a list of the Star Wars games that did:

LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy LucasArts E10+ Cartoon Violence, Crude Humor
LEGO Star Wars Eidos Interactive E Violence Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike Lucasarts Entertainment Company T Violence
Star Wars Bounty Hunter LucasArts Entertainment Company T Violence
Star Wars: The Clone Wars Lucasarts Entertainment Company T Violence
Star Wars Jedi Knight II : Jedi Outcast Lucasarts Entertainment Company T Violence
Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II Lucasarts Entertainment Company T

So it looks like Jedi Outcast is the only other lightsaber swinging game. It might be too scary for your young 'un, but it is rated Teen.

Although there's no sword action, Rogue Leader is THE final word in Star Wars space combat on the consoles.

He's four. Yes he is a big fan of Darth Maul . . . although he also likes the lightsabers. It is just that many of the games are mostly vechicular (Like Rouge Squadron and Clone Wars) and he's wanting lightsabers.

As far as the learning curve, if it is multi-player (which I think the review I read said it was) opition, that is probably all that he will play on it with me.

Yeah he has both the Legos games. And yes Rouge Squardon is the stuff Star Wars games should be made of. But he's just not into the vechicle/spaceship thing (well besides Mario Kart) yet.

In my opinion it's way too intense (i.e. scary) and difficult for a 4 year old. It's very dark (in both graphics and tone) and it's almost too difficult. There's a whole section were you're getting attacked by snipers that are almost off of the screen and it's very hard to get to them.

The multiplayer is pretty fun though. But it's not for the main game. It's just a set of arena competitions (like Quake, or Halo). But from what I can remember, you can set the difficulty of the bots so you can make them really easy to beat if you and your son just wanna mess around with it. Also I thing that the multiplayer mode lets you configure your character to have any particular set of light or dark side force powers. Kind like a very slimmed-down create a player mode.

Rebel Strike has a few Lightsaber battles, but your best bet would be Jedi Outcast.

Don't get the Bounty Hunter game! The camera control is horrible and almost gave me a headache!

Has anyone played the Clone War game? I know that too had a multi-player, but didn't know if there was battles outside of vehicles. It looks as though most of the game is in some kind of vehicle like Rouge Squadron.

Thanks for the information, Akira. It sounds as if this might have to be a game for when he gets older.

Don't spend more than $10 on it because it was supereasy. I beat it in a few days.
