Daredevil # 97 - If there's a better comic out there right now i want to read it. Just another spectacular issue from Ed,Michael & Company. Action, suspense, mystery and another brilliant last-page Cliffhanger.
10/10
Countdown # 48 - I DESPISE Jimmy Olsen. Always have and probably always will. This issue won't change my mind and seeing him do what he did this issue made me want to tear my hair out. Throw in some weekass artwork and you've got another weak installment of this event comic that is finding new ways to disappoint me every week.
4/10
Still have a ton more books to read ranging from Action Comics to Green Lantern to Justice Society Of America to Silent War to Silver Surfer : Requiem to Wolverine and another half dozen in between.

ASSuperman. Nuff said.
DD 97:
I really wish this book would pick up the pace a little bit. I was promised swashbuckling, yet my buckles remain unswashed. Lark's art is still terrific though.
7.5/10
Illuminati 3:
Cheung draws purty pictures, but there wasn't much of a story to speak of here. Two cool/interesting plot points are hit, but the rest just feels weird and pointless.
8/10
BOOK OF THE WEEK:
Shaolin Cowboy 7:
Yet another book that's crazy light on plot, and is still pretty damn good. Darrow's a pretty good writer, and his art is still some of the best on the stands. Great little funnybook, give it a try if you haven't already.

Silver Surfer: Requiem #1 Pretty good start. The art looked a little off a couple of times, especially with Sue when she showed her surprise. Storywise it was pretty interesting, but they probably could have put more story in this issue. It felt light. Too much background retred. That said, I'm interested enough to look at the next issue. 7/10

X23 #6
Finished off alittle flat. Kind of made me feel like this series was simply told to make some cash, not really move along the character. It added more depth to X of course by sharing more of her story, but now at the end the character was left exactly where she was at the beginning of the mini. But aside from that, the story was pretty enjoyable. X-23 is a character that I like and I think can be pretty interesting. However she really is becoming alittle to 1 dimensional for me in the minis I have read her in. ( I dont read whatever X book she is in) She is sort of like the Keanu Reaves of comics. She always has the same look/emotion/response so far. Art work on the book is top notch, really, really nice job. I have gotten away from buying the over priced expensive variants, but I admit I badly wanted that Top Cow variant from a few issues back. Maybe one day if the price ever drops down I will spend the cash on it. Despite my criticisms of her character not really being as developed as Id like, and this mini not really doing anything with her, I enjoyed the series. A solid 7/10 on the series as a whole. This issue 6/10.
Wolverine #54
Last few issues Loeb has improved his run on this book. I am finally starting to care alittle bit about where this is going and anxious to see who this new mystery figure is. I hope it isnt some cheesy guy that gets killed right after the big reveal. How they are playing him up, he apparently is a central figure who has had a major role in all of the "beast' like characters in the marvel universe, which means he has beenn around for a long time. So he better be bad ass. Also, I think this current story is really reinventing Wild Child. I dont know whats going on with him, last time I read anything about him was almost 5 to 8 years ago I think when he was with X Factor. He certainly doesnt seem like a joke any longer. I like it. 7/10
Dissapointed my Conan vol. 4 HC wasnt shipped today as it was suppose to be. They sent a letter along saying it will be shipped as soon as they get it. So hopefully soon.
Also I still have to pick up Hellboy Darkness Calls #2 from jeff's store prolly tomorrow.

Kind of a Meh Week
Action Comics: I thought this was going to be something more than a "Lets review the life of Superman" issue, but thats all it really was. There was a nice retcon to Superman's origin where originally, the ship was to carry the Pregnant Mama Superman to earth, but Kal-El was born Premature. Other than that it looks like Superman is going to fight a legion of brainiacs (among them, the DCU animated one) which mostly look pretty dumb. Also Krypton comes back at some point down the line (maybe). Eh. 7/10
JSA: Kind of a letdown. Seeing the Gulag was nice, but it was all an illusion and we didnt even get to see the Swamp Thing or Solomon Grundy. I still have no idea why the Pre-Crisis Legionaires are in the past. None whatsoever. 7/10
Illuminati: Absolutly no clue what happened. I'm not even sure when this takes place. Eh. From what i can piece together, they tracked down the Beyonder and told him to go away. And then he did. ...But not really.
So does this mean that Secret Wars II never actually happened, but it was just some game that the Beyonder was playing? or was the very end there the beginning of Secret Wars II? 6/10

I took it as sort of a prologue to Secret Wars II. It also outright contradicts Secret Wars III, but that was kind of a stupid story anyway.
This was a disappointing issue of Illuminati though. It didn't really add anything to continuity and wasn't a very interesting story in its own right. Cheung has some pretty splash pages though. 7/10
Daredevil was great. I'm actually a bit frightened by the ending. My guess for the identity of the evil mastermind: Purple Man

New Avengers: Illuminati- PICK OF THE WEEK! Holy shit, Jim Cheung is a beast. That two page Secret Wars spread is nothing short of incredible! There's a little bit of retconning, but I don't really think anyone can complain since the Beyonder's old origin was utterly stupid. 9/10
Daredevil- I'm very curious to see who is behind Melvin's deterioration. I'm always sad to see this character get his world ripped apart, but this is much more promising than last arc, especially at the end. I really hope Brubaker has some interesting twists in store regarding the Pro-Registration side. He's hinted at a Thunderbolts appearance, and that would just be awesome. 9/10
Wolverine- The story finally seems to be going somewhere, but it's taken a long time. Art's nice, though. 6/10

I read that off the shelf, and that was some horribly horribly horribly generic comic booking. Between the art and utterly dismal "dialogue" going on in there. Fucking yeesh.
I picked up the first seven issues of Samuri Cowboy today and its great. Darrow is fantastic, i have never read anything he has done, the detail he does is astounding. It doesnt surprise me at all that it takes him as long as it does to do an issue.
The bit with King crab in the second issue was my favorite part of the series.

I've got a question about The Boys that's been bugging me all afternoon.
What, exactly, did Tek-Knight do when the shrink stepped out of the room? Did he try to fuck the cat in the ass or fuck the therapist's coffee?
And no, I never thought I'd have to ask that. God bless Garth Ennis.
Great to see the book back and I enjoyed it just as much as the first six issues. After reading TK's arc throughout the issue I can see why DC might have been nervous about publishing this book.
Fucking hilarious stuff, though, and I'm really enjoying watching Wee Hughie's development. Can't wait to read some backstory on the rest of the team, especially the Frenchman.
The art, though, is kind of putting me off. I don't know if it's the inker or Robertson's pencils or what, but everything looks really...thick. Sorry, i'm not that great at critiquing artwork, but the art in this book, to me, isn't as strong as some of Robertson's previous stuff. It's good, for sure, but not as great as I'd wish.
Also: did "The Legend" call Will Eisner a faggot? :scared:
Great book. So glad to see it return.

The Boys #7 was kind of a let-down. Sure, it was great. But seeing as how I enjoyed the first six issues so much, the looong wait has pretty much glorified them in my mind as the ultimate comicbook story or something like that, so I was expecting the greatest american comicbook ever. So, I read it, and was underwhlemed. It was funny, and enjoyable. But underwhelming. So I checked out the first six issues again. And they were funny, and enjoyable, and crazy. And then I checked the seventh ish again, with a different light. And thought it was just good.

Yeah, I'd call that a great idea for a joke where the execution didn't quite land. I mean, once you reread it a couple times and think about it, you can figure it out and enjoy it, but the joke shouldn't be that complicated or need you to piece it together. Something got lost in the shuffle there.
Good issue, by the way. I wasn't a huge fan of the first 6 issues, but I thought the whole Tek Knight stuff was strong. I guess the problem is I could give a rats ass about the main characters, but Tek Knight's strange sexual compulsion I found pretty riveting.

Action Comics #850 $3.99 – Such a great issue! Every once in a while we get one of these issues that that just clicks on everything that’s right with Superman. This was another one. First off, the book looks gorgeous. Superman looks perfect, Supergirl looks like a real girl, all the supporting characters are great. It also shows that there are writers that know how to write Supergirl. She’s still youthful and full of personality, but isn’t the unpleasant brat she is in her own book. It also really shows such great little character moments. Superman can be lonely, Barry Allen was really nervous around him (Which may have been my favorite “scene”), Lois is loving and supportive, Supergirl is finally beginning to get it, all that stuff. It’s just perfect. And I love all the little weird moments. Glimpses of a possible future! The Legion all confused about Superboy! Krypto! Little baby Clark! Book of the week by a mile, everything Action Comics should be, everything a superhero book should be!
Amazons Attack #2 $2.99 – This crossover seems to finally be rolling along, and I’m enjoying it. I like how it’s directly crossing over into Wonder Woman (Not sure how I would feel about it if I wasn’t reading that book, but that ain’t my problem!) It was nice to see some of the recognizable Amazons start to question what’s going on, and the heroes concentrating on rescue makes perfect sense.
Countdown #48 $2.99 – I don’t know why people seem to be on the fence with this book. I loved it. The stuff with Jimmy and Lightray was fun (And he’s a god, he can come back whenever they want), the stuff with Mary was creepy, the stuff with the titans gives it some weight and scope. Very good.
Green Lantern Vol 4 #20 $2.99 – Such a great superhero book. All this stuff with the other rings and colors along the spectrum and emotions… it’s just so well thought out. A completely enjoyable. Wonderful art too. (And divorce eh? Hmmmm!)
JSA Classified #26 $2.99 – This has been, what the 3rd or 4th “people betting on superhero fights” JSA story? I was half expecting to see Roulette again. Much as I love Wildcat, it’s enough!
Justice Society Of America Vol 3 #6 Regular Alex Ross Cover $2.99 – Much like my reaction to Action Comics and Amazons Attach, I really liked this. The way it’s all coming together, all the weirdness… all that. I’m really enjoying the whole deal.
Teen Titans Vol 3 #47 $2.99 – Filler? Felt like filler to transition between the big fight and the next big fight. Not bad or anything, but nothing special.
Daredevil Vol 2 #97 $2.99 – Having a woman that has weird control effects on men fighting Daredevil is such a great choice. Melvin gone all looney!
New Avengers Illuminati #3 $2.99- I was really confused by this. It seems to contradict everything I remember about the Beyonder and how that whole storyline played out. It was good, but left many questions.

Green Lantern #20-Enjoyable, but nothing really great, this arc felt like filler until the Sinestro Corps arc started up.
Teen Titans #47-Horrible, this is why I just dont see the appeal of Beechen, horrible dialogue, horrible plot, horrible story. I'm not buying the next two issues, but will give #50 a shot since that issue features Johns returning and McKeever's first Titan's work.
Daredevil #97-Good, honestly this is one of the comics that I dont have a lot of word's for, it's just a solid, enjoyable comic that you read, enjoy, and put down.

I got a few things from last week, including Loaded Bible 2, which I have not yet read. It does get my vote for ugliest cover of the year so far...
Gutsville 1 - Also from last week, but if your LCS has any of this left over, pick it up. I have loved Frazer Irving's art, and this series is really giving him a chance to cut loose. Great concept, eager to see where the story goes from here.
Silent War 5 - Speaking of Frazer Irving, another quality issue of this mini that more people should be reading. Favorite moment of the week was Ares confronted with the blood of all he had killed and asking, "This was it?!"
NA: Illuminati 3 - At first I was really pissed about the retcon, but as I read the issue I just let it go and enjoyed the story for what it was. Cheung is Marvel's next superstar artist. Still not crazy about the retcon, but I don't see this causing any lasting effects in the MU.
Daredevil 97 - What a cliffhanger!! The team of Lark, Guadiano and Hollingsworth is the best Marvel has going right now, bar none. Matt, if you read this, not trying to kiss up, but the coloring job on this issue was your best yet. Kudos to Brubaker for not losing steam one year into his run. Book of the week!
Silver Surfer: Requiem 1 - I was on the fence about buying this, hoping that Marvel would release an oversized trade of this a la Loki. Quality first issue, though it feels like I have read this story before...
Hellboy: Darkness Calls 2 - Not that this book isn't high quality, just left me feeling sort of meh. Probably will read better in trade.
On a side note, my wife picked up The Plain Janes from DC's new Minx line and thought it was high quality young adult reading aimed at girls, if anyone is looking for that sort of thing. Haven't read it myself, but my wife is a middle school English teacher, so she knows her young adult fiction.

Well, I really ain't paying for Fedex. Mail works fine. I'm not in a rush. Fedex and shipping in general are expensive to here from the States. Ideally, if I could find mail order closer, say in Europe, that would probably help a lot. Any ideas?

Code? You think comics has some Bushido code or something? Marvel's comp people are lax. Well, really, they suck and I always have to beg to get anything. It's not editorial's fault at all. But whoever is running the comp people should do a better job.

Daredevil - Great issue. I have not been enjoying the title as much since after the first arc, but this issue was very entertaining. To me, the title was missing some urgency. This issue had some plot movement as well as something to get my blood pumping again. Lark is a great choice for art on this book. His work just looks like it belongs there. Also, I think when the day comes for Hollingsworth to stop coloring the book, it will be a sad day indeed. I think his color vision, or whatever, is clearly what I think about when I try to imagine daredevil in my head. Good stuff all around. I am pumped up about this title again and I am glad for it. I wonder how long Milla is going to stay with MAtt with all of the danger she had been put in since she was created? I was also happy to read a reference to DD being unregistered. I was thinking about that as I read the issue and was pleasently surprised to see it.8/10
Avengers: Illuminati - Still a great title, but I am not real familiar with the back histories of each issue. Though, I find the concept very fun and wish that the series would continue on into stories from the 90's that I am more familiar with (I would love the shit out of that). The dialog was great and the art kicked ass. I can't wait to read the next issue. 7/10

Random assortment of this week and some I had missed last week.
The Boys #7 - Was on the fence prior to buying, but I think I'll be sticking with it. The Tek-Knight stuff was great, and I like the "comics as homework" angle for the team. 7/10
Casanova #6-7 - Picked up the last few issues I was missing of this series so that I was caught up for the second "album," and I have to say, it was an intensely dense read for such a small format. I was a little overwhelmed, but in the good way. 8/10
Criminal #6 - Possibly my favorite issue of the book yet. The new storyline looks to be very interesting, and the art is spectacular as always. 9/10
Daredevil #97 - Another great issue. I like that the book is back to Hell's Kitchen superheroics, because that Europe arc dragged for me. 9/10
Green Lantern #20 - While I've liked the Sinestro Corps backups, this 3-issue arc has felt like filler from the beginning. It's OK, though, because next month EVS is back for the SC Special. 6/10
Justice Society of America - This JLA/JSA crossover is just killing these books for me. I could not be less interested in the Legion characters, and the Justice teams haven't been together long enough for me to get a feel for their respective characters before thrusting them into oddball groups. Still, I've liked the Johns issues a lot more than the Meltzer-penned. 6/10
Shaolin Cowboy #7 - While the art was great, there was very-little-to-no plot, even less than prior issues of this series. Hopefully the next issue will pack a little more punch (and, if it's not asking too much, is completed before '08 ). 7/10
The Spirit #6 - Another nice done-in-one story, but part of me is itching for a longer arc with these characters. Maybe after the Summer guests issue. 8/10

What's up brothers? I have 9 picks for 13 books this week.
9, Exiles#91-94-I'm really trying to give Chris Claremont a chance on one of my favorite X-books Exiles, but at the rate it's going I'm thinking I'm going to quit reading this title by the time it hits issue 100. It's not the story itself is bad, it's just that it's not that that well written. There are a lot of things that are never really explained like how this particular world the that Exiles are on turned so bad and I'm not too satisfied by the explanation behind the ending either.
8. Teen Titans#47- I've never really liked this incarnation of the Teen Titans because honestly I never really felt it delivered on its promise. Now that Geoff Johns appears to have left the book and transitioned it over to Adam Beechen who I like on Robin, I'm pretty sure I'm going to drop this title by issue 50 if I can make it that long. What really hurts this issue is that it connects to the events of Countdown and the death of a character I don't care about and frankly a character that writers are trying to make more interesting than she actually is. Next month Titans is crossing over with Amazon's attack another DC event that I really don't think is necessary. Ugh. At least we got some good action sequences this issue.
7. New Avengers: Illuminati#3- I'm utterly disappointed in this title two times in row. I just don't think Bendis knows how to end his stories here. Also, I hate it when he retro cons the origins of characters like he did with the Beyonder in this issue. Hopefully it will all play out well in the end.
6. Action Comics#850- I liked this issue, but it wasn't necessarily what I expected. Basically as Supergirl is stuck in the 31st Century with the Legion of Superheroes they try to look back in time to find out where she disappeared. Instead they end up looking at Superman's past, present, and future when Supergirl eventually returns. I'm curious to see what the long term effect of this story is going to be.
5. Countdonw#48- I've come to the conclusion that I like certain aspects of Countdown such as Jimmy Olsen, and Mary Marvel. I also feel like this issue did a better job of telling the story of Duella Dent's funeral than Teen Titans did. After talking it over with my homeboy, I guess Black Adam is going to give Mary Marvel some of his powers next issue and that ought to be exciting.
4. The Boys#7- Yes, it's finally back. How, I missed the most offensive super hero comic book on the stands. Still, the reason it only ranked number 4 for me this week is because I have to get use to crazy stuff like a Super hero who can't stop f*cking things up the ass. Still I liked the introduction of the Legend, yeah that was a hoot to say the least.
3. Green Lantern#20- I gotta admit that this was a good issue and a good conclusion to the Mystery of Star Sapphire story arc. There was a real emotional resonance in the end too especially when Hal Jordan sat there with his past Carol Ferris and his present/future Cowgirl after saving both their lives from Star Sapphire. I also liked the direction that the Zamarons have decided to take the new star sapphires in. I'm ready now for the Sinestro Corps Storyline.
2. Silent War#5- Wow, this may be the unsung Marvel miniseries of the year, because I have a feeling that this story could have an impact on the Marvel universe for years to come. Basically, although the story is told oddly enough from the perspective of the Sentry (yes the Mighty Avengers have been called in) the Inhumans attack the Pentagon in an attempt to get the missing terrigen mists. By the end of this issue they do get both the mists and their people back but in the conclusion next issue it looks like the Marines who were already exposed to the mists are going to attack and the ensuing fight will probably be as ugly as they look.
1. Justice Society of America#6- Wow, this issue hits all the bases. Geoff Johns makes excellent use of characters from 3 teams, the Justice League of America, the Justice Society of America, and the Legion of Superheroes. However, I really love the way he was able to integrate Superman's history with the Legion into this story. Thanks to what I've read in Countdown it seems like Karate Kid will be the legionnaire who joins the JLA but I'm curious to see exactly what the conclusion of the Lightning Saga is going to be. Also, the best part of this issue is when Batman tells Superman that he and the Legion were kids and Superman responds looking at his flight ring “We were Legion"
