Wow...talk about delivering on the climax to last issue. This book is jam packed with tons of stuff. We have Mark standing up to Immortal, a sweet double-paged spread showing the climax of the Sequid battle, a space battle for Mark complete with a great full page spread, Rex Splode taking a bullet through the HEAD, Brit showing up for a cameo, confirmation of Dupli-Kate's death (and presumably Shrinking Ray as well), Mark breaking it off with Amber AND announcing his intentions to pursue Eve, and a great little twist ending promising something huge for the future.
I really need to re-read the whole series sometime soon and make a list of all the dangling plot-threads out there. Kirkman's already said that he doesn't put anything in the book as a throwaway...everything that shows up will show up again.
Also...anyone else hyped up for the Brit ongoing? I know Kirkman isn't writing it, but he seems to be having a decent hand in it...hopefully to keep it pretty closely tied to the Kirkmanuniverse that Invincible, Capes and Tech Jacket dwell in.

Probably my favorite issue of the series. It was nice to see he's a mature adult about the relationship.
and I think Shrinking Ray is living in the corpse and will come back all insane. But that could just be me

I like the resolution to a few dangling threads. Now things can move on with Mark, his family, potentially Atom Eve, and if we are all lucky - Battle Beast!

Great issue. I was kinda pissed at the break-up, but at this point, I supposed it had to happen.

All the forthcoming stuff with Viltrumites definitely means there will be off-world escapades. So this is a pretty smart way to handle things without Amber remaining a one-note character. I almost feel the only reason Kirkman has kept Mark from dropping out of college all together is because of William. Gotta have some non-supes supporting cast in there.

Yeah this issue rocks.
Totally a major issue with alot of things being established in this book.
For one Mark is now the man, and he totally has the Immortals respect which he didnt have till now.
Also, him and Amber being through is cool, and it was handled well. No drama. This leaves the door wide open for Eve and Mark which can be all types of awesomeness and interesting story plots. Eve is a very powerful hero on her own, and those 2 teamed up together could be v ery interesting.
Next we got Rex. Is anyone else shcoiioked that he got shot through the head and theres not any mention of this? I mean he can make things explode , o.k. cool I get that, but where does his ability to take a bullet that goes into the back of his head and out of his forehead come in? I need to pull out the Invincible Library and check his abilities again. Him surviving that and being able to keep fighting right afterwards was stunning to me.
Aside from the whole being shot in the head thing, you have Rex doing alot of maturing of his own in this issue and he stepped up, pulled his shit together and saved the day. Where as prior, I always saw Rex as pretty much a B list character, with this he steps up into the spot light a bit more and is gonna be taken more seriously.
And finally, again with Rex is his and Marks talk at the end in the hospital. Even though he says he was teasing mark about the parade thing, I dont think he is so mature that it doesnt bother him at all, but aside from that, I suddenly see those 2 becoming friends. Especially with the "I just broke up with my girlfriend" and rexs' reply of "been there, done that!" I just suddenly see Rex as a muuch stronger, and important character now.
Dupli Kate is gone, will her brother end up coming along to fill her shoes? IF of course she is really dead. I cant believe she was dumb enuff to not have a clone stashed somewhere for safety.
Anyways, a reallly great issue.

kirkman laid the seeds for rex in his two page origin story. always knew he had more to him.

Like anyone thought Kirkman would have Mark end up with the Blonde instead of the Redhead, not happening from a writer who named his son Peter Parker Kirkman.

well hopefully he will become a total bad ass.
In issue 40 he was about to cry and run to his mommy.
41 he finally steps up and grabbed his cajones. hopefully that will become habit forming.
man lately several characters in the invicble universe have gotten much more interesting to me.
Immortal has been a fav for alot of folks, but he was always purely a pompus(sp) ass to me. Him not being all pissy to Mark but yet praising him in 41 and him mourning dupli kate gave him some added depth.
rex, for all the reasons alreadt talked about.
cecil every since he asked that crazy, creepy reanimator scientist guy to work for the gov.
Eve has always been cool, but she seems more powerful now thann ever, shes grown alot also.
And theres a few more. Kirkman has gotten his woody back for Invincible lately and its awesome.
Actually now is a great time to be me if your favorite writers happen to be Bendis, Kirkman, Brubaker, and Fraction. Those cats are all high speed, low drag lately and simply cranking out some really great writing and seem reinvigorated! Its great.

Not only was the issue great, but for me, the cover jumps right out at me from the shelf whenever I walk by, I really like it. Did you see Invincible tear that ship in half?? I love this book, and this issue confirms why. I have a feeling Rex may be stepping up soon, considering that he can't get any recognition for what he did, I have a feeling he may start to resent it soon. Mark gets a parade and he gets nothing, that would piss anybody off, hero or not. Oh yeah, and does anybody else think Amber was one more date away from totally blowing that guy? Now Mark can get in Eves pants. GO INVINCIBLE!!

I will say this.
We aint seen the last of Amber and Mark I dont think.
Wasnt there something strange about that guy Amber was friends with? In some old issue didnt they show him as being something other than just a normal person?
I cant remember now as its been several issues but I am gonna need to go back and find it. For some reason I got it filed away in my mind that there was more to him than it seems for whatever reason.
So if he is something besides what he seems, than Amber will end up in danger and of course Mark will have to come to her rescue, and it will be interesting if that brings back any new feelings or whatever.
Hopefully he gets involved with Eve quickly.

I have a feeling the future problem that comes up with Amber will have more to do with her knowledge of Mark being Invincible.
Hopefully he gets involved with Eve quickly.
He wasn't shown as something superhuman or whatever...but they did show that in his internal monologues he was clearly not the saint he paints himself as. He was basically just interested in fucking Amber...or at least that's how it seemed.

Yeah there is something more to that guy, and I bet he was getting close to Amber to simply get closer to Mark for some diabolical, twisted sort of reason.

I love this book.
I'm a trade guy, and I buy this monthly because I can't stand waiting for it.
I think Kate could easily come back. Here's how: The Kate that's part of the Guardians isn't the original; she's a duplicate. At some point in her past, she split into two and ran off with her 'brother'. You know someday Kirkman's going to follow up with the brother thing, independent of whether Kate's still around.
I can't believe Ray's dead; all he had to do was grow to normal size before he got chewed or swallowed.
I'm also pleased to see Invincible and Eve becoming a couple. About time. Kirkman played it well. I wonder if Amber's going to become a factor in any future issues because she knows his secret ID. It'd be cool if she's held hostage by someone in the future who mistakenly believes she means something to him.
I pity the poor fools who don't think this book is any good. It's the best retro-mature book out there.
I'm looking forward to Brit with some trepidation; I'm skeptical it'll be worth reading without Kirkman writing. But I'll check it out because of what's come before.
