I believe the New Corps. Was a fifth week event of five one shots that featured Kyle Rayner meeting different aliens around the universe and giving them gl rings. Don't ask what happened to those guys cause I don't know and I'm pretty sure none of them were former gls.
No, that was Circle of Fire. It sucked.
New Corps was a two-part prestige format mini about Kyle leaving Earth to travel the universe and recruit new GLs. He wound up giving the ring to a supervillain, and assembling a crazy motley crew of pseudoheroes to stop him. It was great. Unfortunately, none of them were ever seen again. :(

Thanks for correcting me. Back during that time I wasn't into GL that much. More of a Waid Flash fan and Morrison JLA.

Let's keep it up. At this rate we'll kill the thread before the 4th issue of countdown ships. 13 threads to get through Countdown would be awesome.

I'm going to review and link to the first page as well. I'm not going to go in depth with what happened in the books, Ray does a fine job of that, I'm just going to give some thoughts on what I read.

Bone is awesome. Shazam is not. I keep thinking I should buy the complete Bone, but the I think I should wait until it's released in colour. I'm so conflicted.
I've considered buying the complete Bone a few times, but I already have a few of the trades and the last ten or so issues. I dislike double-dipping.

We should all probably post them in recent replies, too. Not everybody always goes back to the first page. Let's see, looking at my DCBS order, what I'm currently buying from DC is:
Countdown
Detective Comics
Justice League
Justice Society
Spirit
Whatever McKeever writes
Wow, I've really trimmed down, both DC & Marvel. For the better, though, since I'm buying trades that I enjoy a lot more.

The proper ranking:
1. Ion(He's basically a god now. Everyone else is on a different level.)
2. Captain Marvel(Superman's powers, plus magic.)
3. Superman(The ultimate battle powerhouse)
4. Martian Manhunter(Superman-level strength, but not as invincible. Mind powers give him a serious boost.)
5. Supergirl(Tons of pure strength and speed, but her inexperience makes her prone to slip-ups.)
6. Hal Jordan(His focus with the ring makes him the easy champ out of the standard GLs.)
7. Power Girl(A lower-powered kryptonian. Not up to par with Superman or Supergirl.)
8. Wonder Woman(She's a warrior, but I have seen nothing to imply her actual power level is that high.)
The proper ranking:
1. Ion(He's basically a god now. Everyone else is on a different level.)
So Kyle still has all of his god-like powers??? damn...that doesn't seem to bode too well for Kyle during Countdown.

They're toned down from what they were in Winick's run. I doubt he has the control over human biology that he did there. However, he's far above the level of any normal GL. He can reanimate the dead, cause supernovas, etc. And his battery is internalized and never runs out. He clearly outclasses just about anyone in the DCU in pure power potential. That being said, he'd likely get his ass kicked by anyone on this list short of Supergirl, because he'd be busy trying to talk them out of the fight and making wisecracks rather than tapping into his well of power and taking them out.

I don't think you can put him there. He's not a superhero in the traditional sense, he's bound by a lot of strange rules that preclude him from getting into the traditional hero bouts, and he's more a force of nature. I left off anyone but the costumed heroes. A list of most powerful characters in the DCU, he and Darkseid are probably 1/2.

Plastic Man is extremely unique in the DCU, and probably one of the most resistant and invincible heroes, but all he would do in a fight against any of these 8 is to get bounced around and annoy them as they wonder why he won't stay down. Kyle and Kyle alone could take him out.

Current Gilmore Girls, hell yes. But those first few seasons were gold, and on par in quality with SM:heart:MJ for sure.
I just realized something....... now that Sean is bigtime and writing Countdown, I'm going have to wait like a 1/2 hour in line at Chicago to get my SM:heart:MJ signed:(

Actually, yeah, that sort of proved his strength. He's a very powerful character and a natural leader. Arcudi was building towards a very cool Atlantis vs. Sub Diego story that could have really solidified this, but he was interrupted by OYL.

I am. 52 was a side story. This is the beginning of the future of the DCU.
Which character will see the biggest change during Countdown?
Probably Jimmy Olsen and Mary Marvel.
How much change can Jimmy Olsen undergo? Aside from being dead??? It seems like the late 80's/early 90's, Jimmy was becoming more of a man...and that was all undone. Are they going to write him more grown up now?

I'm more excited in that anything can happen over the next year, while 52 for the most part was limited by what characters we'd seen OYL. Overall, though, nothing I've seen or heard about Countdown has me wanting to get to the store the way that 52 did.

I don't think Jimmy is going to change very much at all. They're just going to go back to using him as more of DC's "everyman". He's the guy connected to all the other heroes, while not really a hero himself.
Mary will change, I hope not too much. I really fhate the idea of them ruining her. Same with Ray Palmer. I guess it's not as big a deal since we can just have some Earth 5 stories with classic Marvels.

That, plus him seemingly aging and de-aging every time a new writer came on to one of the core books was what I was referring to.
For some reason, any time I think of Jimmy Olsen, I'm reminded of the story where he and Perry's son's souls were trapped in that satanic club storyline from the early 90's.

Was this when he had his own book or he actually showed up in issues of Batman, JLA, Green Lantern, Green Arrow??? Either way, I'd rather him contained in Metropolis rather than a pal of all superheroes.

Around that time, Jimmy Olsen relied less on Superman and started becoming his own man. He got pissed off at Superman for passing on some kind of alien virus which caused his body to painfully stretch. After that cure, he got tied up in Cadmus searching for his long lost father.

Me too...but Countdown #51 was pretty good. I'll have more of an "official" review later tonight. There are a few questions I have for the readers in the know concerning 2 of the characters featured.

I read through Countdown quickly while I was in the shop. My copy'll be here next week. It looked pretty good.
The death didn't bother me, at all. The characterization of Red Hood was good. I love seeing the Monitors taking an active role in things. And Ray Palmer is that important?

Countdown 51 was a pretty good read. I'm intrigued. I think the lack of real-time storytelling will benefit the writing. It was clear that was forcing too many concessions for the writing and hampering the story of 52 at some points.

Well...these were my points/questions :
I like knowing that duela dent is from another earth. It doesn't make sense that the Joker has a daughter that old. However, I guess she's always playing the line between hero and villain???
The Red Hood seemed a bit too much like a good guy. I don't really expect that from Jason Todd. If this singer/actress had something of value for him, I can see him trying to save her for his own use.
Ray Palmer is one of the world's best scientists...so maybe that holds the key.

Joker's Daughter, confusingly enough, isn't actually the Joker's Daughter. Jason TOdd mentioned it, and she shot him down by mentioning he isn't Batman's son. That was actually funny.

Yeah, the character of Duela Dent is a bit of a mess. At different times, she's claimed to be the daughter of numerous villains. I don't think she even knows who her father really is.

It's probably my favorite issue of the arc.
Which isn't really saying much.
I got extremely bored by #0. Issue #7 was the shit, though.

Mini, more likely. I'd buy it, as long as Rucka was writing her.
You'd buy it if Chuck Austin were writing it, Ray. It's DC.
Heh. stroke drugs.
She's supposedly going to be playing a big role in Countdown, so you may get your wish. :)
Where was this announced? Never liked Batwoman much.
I am. 52 was a side story. This is the beginning of the future of the DCU.
But it's an event:sick:
With Dini and McKeever I can't help but be excited, though
I don't think Jimmy is going to change very much at all. They're just going to go back to using him as more of DC's "everyman". He's the guy connected to all the other heroes, while not really a hero himself.
Mary will change, I hope not too much. I really fhate the idea of them ruining her. Same with Ray Palmer. I guess it's not as big a deal since we can just have some Earth 5 stories with classic Marvels.
And Lord Darkseid will send legions of Parademons to peel the flesh from yoor bones!
That's one thing I have an issue with. They can totally screw up a character and comfort fans by saying "Oh, it's okay. You can read a different story about them here.

Yup. Except Rick Jones is cool.
Yessir. Is Rick still with the Loners in CB's mini-series?
Rick Jones was never cool!
It's:
1- Jimmy
2- Pete Ross
3- Aquababy
4- Rick Jones
5- Snapper Carr
That's the official order.

Rick Jones has not been seen yet through the first 2 issues of The Loners sadly.
Oh and Countdown # 51 = :Poo:

I'm sorry, you're wrong. 7 may've been slightly better than the rest, but it still wasn't a very good comic.

It would have been a good #0. It wasn't the best book of the week, but it was solid.
