I'm sure DC is hoping for The Outsiders to improve significantly sales wise ala Marvel's recent Thunderbolts revamp. Which basically more than doubled it's numbers.
I don't think it'll do anywhere near that strong though. But if it can settle into a nice 40ish spot on the charts i'm sure they'd be happy.
I'll check out the first issue but that 5 part weekly shit next month really turned me off already.

Has the artist been announced yet? I honestly can't remember.
I don't think so.
Based on the talent pool DC seems to be pulling from recently, I'm not very optimistic.

Speaking of that, I'm surprised Thunderbolts never sold bigger numbers. Huge increase, yes, but I thought it would be on the heels of 100k.
They're just making another Batman book here.

Same here. I'm getting this way more and more lately. I don't care how good the story or art are, if they don't have a point I just can't come aboard.
That Fantastic Four/Spider-Man mini is a terrific example of this. Personally, I blame Civil War for burning me out with all its pointless minis and one shots.

I'm excited about the Nightwing/Boomerang one, just for the fact that it's the first solo DC work of Nunzio DeFilippis and Christina Weir.
Now that McKeever's got the big stage and spotlight he so richly deserves, I can turn my pimping back to these two.

I'm almost the opposite. Most of my favorite stories with established characters don't involve a change in the status quo. Look at Paul Jenkin's Spider-Man, for example. I dislike constant change.

DC kind of seems to be throwing absolutely everything at the wall and seeing what sticks. And the flux of ancilliary tie-in books and such have destroyed my desire for most of these books. I even grabbed Countdown 48 and 47 out of sheer boredom because all I had were heavy GN's and was looking for something fun to read. Tsh. Nothing. The conflict in it is so dull that when it ties in to other DCU books I read, it kind of lessens my interest in them. Sigh. Right before Infinite Crisis I was picking up everything but Hawkman and one or two other titles from the main DCU.

But at least that was in a main book. It's not like they had him doing Peter Parker: Confidential or something like that. I'm REALLY not feeling third tier books these days.....

Ooh! Wasn't expecting that at all! Seems early this month.
A new 8-part Batman: Countdown mini by Frank Tieri? :nonono2: He's good, but shouldn't DC be giving Gage and Andreyko more work first?
Who the hell is Sterling Gates? But Johns telling the Anti-Monitor's story looks pretty awesome.
Johns goes solo on Action as Gary Frank takes over art. This could be good, even if the first arc is about the Legion.
Alex Ross joins Johns! Kingdom Come begins in JSA! :ecstatic:
No Titans preview. :(
Kingdom come Superman? :mistrust:
And DC can't be thinking that these things are going to be burning up the sales charts. I mean, Frank Tieri is not exactly a powerhouse, and come on...the Extremists? Who was clamoring for these guys?
Maybe DC's plan is simply to flood the market with product and try to narrow the gap by sheer numbers.
Bingo.
We're all very sane people in this thread. We don't harsh on stuff just for the point of harshing. When something needs called out, it gets done here in a VERY civil manner. :)
We're polite but we're not sane.

So i read Batman : Son Of The Demon last night, the prestige format one-shot from 1987.
First the artwork by Jerry Bingham is fucking INCREDIBLE! Seriously just beautiful stuff.
But the story is really really strange and doesn't jive with Grant Morrison's recent story at all :? First Bruce is head over heels in LOVE with Talia Al Ghul, hell they're actually considered married in this story. No bullshit love potions, he loves this broad and their child is conceived with his ahem full cooperation. (Sans his Cowl if you're wondering). He also seems real damn chummy with Ra's Al Ghul here as they team up to take down some James Bond type villain goof with an evil weather satellite. No really.
Talia ends up miscarrying the child in battle and basically tells Bruce to beat it which he does. The book ends with the future Damien being adopted by some nice couple after being left on the doorstep of an orphanage.
6/10 overall but with a full 4/4 for the artwork here. Anyone else read this? This was the re-release version that DC put out last year by the way with the Andy Kubert cover.

Yeah, I read this a couple years back. The artwork was fucking beautiful. You're right about the story not meshing with Morrison's current arc, but that shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. Barr played the story very straight in Son of the Demon. The interactions between Bats and Ra's were a tad unbelievable at times (and really reinforced the idea that this story was supposed to be out of continuity, I thought). I believed the stuff between Bats and Talia much more, however. The poor bastard really loved her.
I give it a 7.5/10.
I still have Bride of the Demon sitting on my bookshelf, yet to read. I need to get the third one (Death of the Demon, I think?).

McKeever mentioned something similar in an article a couple weeks ago on Newsarama. I actually agree with him and you, especially since I never buy comics because so and so is gonna get killed in that issue, I always buy comics for the creative teams. I understand from a retailer stand point why they have to put so much info in the solicits though.

Couple of comic reviews
Deadpool/GLI
I reviewed this in the review thread, but after re-reading it I actually have to drop this a grade. I gave it a 4/10 upon first reading, now I give it a 2/10. It just isnt funny, this was like watching a comedian die on stage, grasping at straws for humor. Not to mention the inconsistent artwork, Pelletier's artwork was nice, but Dwyer and Chiang's artwork was ugly.
Green Lantern #21
Continuing what is shaping up to be a great "event" comic/storyline. I have high hopes for this, I just hope Gibbons and Gleason can hold up their end, otherwise this could be a really inconsistent crossover, ala JLA/JSA. 8/10
JSA #7
That's more like it. It's really too bad the crossover was shoe horned in, if only because it really stopped the momentum this title had. Good to see it back on track. 9/10
Uncanny X-Men #488
Ok, not great, but ok. Really felt like a "stretch" issue with the main story not really moving along at all. Still a good issue with some nice character moments. 7/10
New Warriors #1
Gonna have to go and grab the next couple issues of this sometime. This was a really good read, suprisingly. Solid artwork and a solid script. This isnt a spectacular comic, but it's a good, solid, read. 7/10
Thor #1
Very nice artwork from Copiel and Morales. The script, well, it was good for what it was. Stuff happens in this issue, but it definately wasnt a "meaty" read. 6/10

The movie was great. Just as good as the last one, I thought. It's been awhile since I read the fifth book, though, so I'm not sure what was left out of the movie. It seemed to me that just about everything was there. I loved it.
I hate watching movies based on books too closely after reading the books, because then I am comparing them way too much. I know movies are a different form of media, and shit has to change, but If I just read the book I can't help but be too critical.

Agreed. I noticed a lot of small changes that I really didn't like.
I actually did really enjoy this movie, though. Although I still maintain the first two were the best. Yes, they were slavishly loyal and lacked any real inventiveness on the part of the screenwriter and director. For those two, that's exactly what was needed. Wouldn't work for four and on at all, though.
One thing I didn't actually like was in the final battle in the Ministry in this movie. In the original book, all of Harry's friends took hits for him against the death eaters. No one got out completely unscathed, and I think it drove home the stakes a little bit more(you know, besides Sirius falling into a magic death cloak). Here, the battle became Harry vs. Voldemort way too quickly, and the others didn't get to do too much. Also, no mention of Lucius Malfoy's arrest.

A 17-part miniseries by the blockbuster team of Chuck Austen and Whilce Portacio. How does the DC Universe's #1 Rock Band/Superhero team made completely out of Monsters fit into the Multiverse? And what happens when the Point Men show up? Is the Multiverse big enough for two teenage snake-boys?

DC Universe Reviews:
I'm really starting to dislike this series, and that upsets me. I'm panning a Sean McKeever comic. A Sean McKeever/Paul Dini comic, at that! Although, this isn't just written by them. Tony Bedard's in there too, so we're up to three writers now. But honestly, my problem isn't with any specific writer, and it's certainly not with the dialogue. The writers do the best they can, but unfortunately, that's not much. Every issue is more and more like a series of cliffs notes - brief segments that tease at future events without much happening. Too much happens in each issue, not much feeling like it's important, and the stories are way too broken up over each issue. The main plots this time go as follows: Mary Marvel, getting more and more pissed off by the issue, attacks the Riddler, only to find out that he's reformed and not the real culprit. Threatening him, she agrees to team up with him and winds up in a fight with Clayface. Riddler tells her to seek anger management. Riddler, at least, is written very well here, but Mary's new attitude is getting tiresome. She's not acting so much like Black Mary as she is like a teenage girl who just snuck out of the house. Batman has (another!) pointless confrontation with Karate Kid, Holly and Harley Quinn discuss the mission of the Athenian Women's Shelter, and Harley seems sane. Donna, Jason, and Bob the Monitor show up to recruit Ryan Choi, and Donna gets hit on by Ryan's wacky scientist friends. And Jimmy Olsen designs costumes for himself. The other major segment involves Trickster and Piper, who find themselves under arrest by a group of villains led by Deadshot and Multiplex for the murder of the Flash. I don't know why these villains want to arrest fellow villains, but they've chained them together via an electric tether. Trickster and Piper don't take kindly to this, and wind up escaping, still chained together.....out the side of an airplane. Just try combining all of this into one comic, and you get the feeling of how overstuffed it is. The art isn't great this issue, and this feels less and less like a complete narrative by the issue. At least there are no abortionbeasts. Sigh. :(
Let's just be honest here. Nothing was going to live up to the Sinestro Corps special. That was probably the single best comic of the entire year, and isn't likely to be dethroned anytime soon. But still, I expected a little more out of the following chapter, and this issue, while looking very good and having a lot of cool moments, seems to rehash things quite a bit. The GLs are counting their dead after the massacre, and old grudges between Hal and the Lost Lanterns flare up again. Jack T. Chance gets in an appearance, and unfortunately doesn't distinguish himself from the others. We gain a little more insight into the Guardians' secrets in the Book of Oa, and see some more of the Sinestro Corps in action. Unfortunately, the Anti-Monitor is MIA this issue, leaving us still to wonder what his involvement here is. The second half of the issue is stronger, as Hal falls prey to to a booby trap from Parallax in the battery, forcing him to relive his greatest fear - the childhood death of his father. It's rendered beautifully, and when Hal wakes up, he's face to face with the man behind it - Kyle Rayner, the new Parallax. It's a twisted rematch that should be a hell of a good time to watch. This may not have been a great issue, but it was a very good one, and this event is just heating up. Next, the story continues in GLC, as Soranik Natu faces Sinestro.
Okay. Now that's more like it. JSA is back, after being derailed for two months by The Lightning Saga. And in the IC/OYL era, Johns has become known for one thing in my mind: creating fully fleshed-out new legacy heroes from scratch and making us care. Blue Beetle in IC, Kid Devil and Miss Martian in TT, and Wildcat II, Cyclone, and now Citizen Steel in JSA. This is Nathan Heywood's story, and it's rare for a new hero to get such a strong start. He wakes up in the JSA medlab, after seeing his family killed, only to find out that he's bonded with Reichsmark's blood, turning his skin into living steel while giving him his leg back. He's burdened with all the people he lost while struggling with the fact that his strength is completely out of control. Even when he sees that a lot of his young relatives survived , he still realizes he can't even touch them. Over the course of the issue, he'll be tested with his first battle(also giving great moments to a few other members), and eventually come to terms with his new destiny. He's a great addition to the team. Also fantastic this issue is a scene between Superman and Starman, who continues to be the best character in this series. Next issue turns the focus on Damage, as this title continues to be utterly unstoppable in quality.
I can't believe this is how Buseik's epic ends. It can't be. There's got to be a part three coming. Because, despite the fact that the art and dialogue on this title are astonishing as usual, and Buseik's grasp on Superman and his supporting cast is flawless, the plotting in this issue is CRAP! Seriously, we ended last issue with Arion trying to take over Superman's mind and force him to destroy Metropolis. This issue....Superman simply fights him off, and spends the entire issue trying to convince everyone that he's not evil. He's attacked by the Prankster, trying to play hero, as well as the annoying Squad K, a useless band of government goons designed to take out Superman if he ever goes rogue. All the while, the issue stays tolerable because it's written so well, but you can't turn a sow's ear into a silk purse, and all the poignant monologues in the world can't save this plot. What happened to Subjekt 13? Sirocco? Khyber? Surely Camelot Falls was not about Squad K, the Prankster, and Arion running like a bitch. We now take a break for a Jimmy Olsen spotlight, and then continue the story of the Third Kryptonian. I trust Buseik has a plan. His run up till now has been too good to assume anything else.
This issue sadly doesn't show off most of what makes Shadowpact so good. It's still a very good comic, and there are quite a few excellent subplots, but it's somehow lacking, and the ending takes things in a very disturbing direction that I doubt will actually be followed up on. We open in Chicago, as Doctor Gotham holds a bus of kids hostage waiting for Shadowpact to show up. He's a great villain, but maybe too grim for this title. The main battle between him and Shadowpact is very well done and exciting, but at the end of the day, we've seen a lot of fights like it. The real strength of the series comes in smaller scenes, like Blue Devil's journey to Hell to try to get released from his contract, which is both poignant and funny at points. But things take a very disturbing tone when Dr. Gotham opens up a volcano in Chicago, seemingly turning the city into a mass grave, killing millions of civilians and maybe Shadowpact among them. Next issue brings in the JLA to deal with this massive crisis, and I have a hard time believing Willingham actually just wiped out a US city. Either way, this is sort of like having Speedball be accused of mass murder. It just doesn't fit in with the tone of the book and characters. Oh, wait.
Bonus Reviews:
With the creative team of Andy Diggle and Jock in charge here, you just knew this wasn't going to suck. And I'm happy to say this is one quality miniseries. This is an Oliver Queen we haven't seen before: a cocky, arrogant, and selfish thrillseeker, always in search of his next adventure, with quite the Robin Hood fixation. Quite simply put, he's a prick, and it works great for this story. The only person he seems to trust is his manservant/bodyguard Hackett, a tough guy from the Royal Marines, who has a risky and possibly illegal business proposal for him in between their adventures. But all isn't what it seems, and after a public meltdown, Ollie decides to accompany Hackett out of town to make the business deal to let the furor die down. Hackett isn't exactly thrilled about Ollie's last-minute decision to join him on the high seas, and it soon becomes clear why. Hackett is a traitor, stealing 14 million of Ollie's money to give to a mysterious criminal, and when Ollie fights back, his unconscious body is dumped in the sea to die. But this is Oliver Queen, and we know he's not going anywhere. In two weeks: The island. This mini is looking like it'll be well worth the read.
And this right here? This is why you don't give TV people with no comics experience the keys to a massive story like the origin of the Joker. This is, pure and simple, an unmitigated disaster. Those looking forward to jumping right into the Joker's origin will be disappointed, as we spend the first half hanging around with Batman rehashing dozens of scenes we've seen a million times before, right down to the boring love interest you know he'll run out on. And then there's the Joker, pre-Joker. And wow, how much can you miss the point? Alan Moore's brilliant "One Bad Day" approach is out the window, replaced with a grim career killer/robber for hire who just doesn't seem to enjoy his work anymore. That is, until he meets a blond Pre-med student in a bar(She's going to be a shrink!) who assures him that he just needs to find what makes him smile. So, yeah. Before he was Joker, Joker was apparently a sad assassin until Harley Quinn gave him a motivational speech. This'll end well, no doubt. Think I'm dropping this title. They're obviously not comitted to putting out quality stories.
Really, with Darwyn Cooke and Tim Sale, it's hard to go wrong. This is the Superman I grew up loving, down to the slightest detail. The farmboy humility, the longing desire to be human, the awkwardness coming not from nerdiness but from that slight feeling of being part of this world but not of it. It even has the Byrne Kents, those lovingly bickering old folks who everyone wishes they knew. It's classic Superman, and I loved it. The Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, and even the Lex Luthor in this book are all written perfectly. The main story is more than a little odd, relating to a mysterious creature living in suspended animation inside a giant chunk of Kryptonite, temporarily taking over the mind of Luthor's evil new Rival. It's wierd, and could go horribly wrong, but so far it works just like everything else in this title. Next issue, hopefully coming before too long, will have Superman and this creature come face to face. Unlike Batman, this series opened with a bang. Let's hope it can keep its momentum, because this will be a hard act to follow.
I liked this chapter of Kid Amazo a bit more than previous ones, because the protagonist finally shuts up with his whining and does something! After the douchey actions of the JLA last issue, causing his girlfriend to break up with him, Kid Amazo decides to take matters into his own hands, giving up on being a hero and instead becoming a thorn in the side of the League, releasing prisoners. He's not a flat out supervillain yet, but he's getting there, as he comes into conflict with one member of the League after another, eventually leading to a big showdown with the entire group. It probably won't have a good ending for him, but it should be entertaining to see, at least. Next issue is the conclusion, and only then will I be able to tell if this story was worth it.
Green Arrow: year one was fantastic. Ollie is such a prick. :D
JSA was amazing.
You're right about Superman, that was a horrible fucking plot.
The last three issues of Shadowpact have been shit, I'm dropping the book if next issue isn't back to good quality.
My lack of knowledge about such classic characters as Spoiler and Anarky is really lacking. It's a shame really.

Countdown Presents: Scare Tactics
A 17-part miniseries by the blockbuster team of Chuck Austen and Whilce Portacio. How does the DC Universe's #1 Rock Band/Superhero team made completely out of Monsters fit into the Multiverse? And what happens when the Point Men show up? Is the Multiverse big enough for two teenage snake-boys?
Sad thing is I can totally see that happening.

I actually did love the previous issue, but seriously: No one buys Shadowpact to see grim-and-gritty magical combat. We buy it for talking Chimps and z-listers made cool with hilarity!
I think good Willingham is working overtime on Fables(Everyone here's reading it, right? Best book on the stands), and has let evil Willingham start picking up the slack. :scared:

I'm beggining to think that Shadowpact really shouldn't have been an ongoing. Maybe just a mini. Or a series of minis Hellboy style.

I always need to tease Ray in some form or another, so since he hasn't said any really pervy comments for me to quote maybe I should put that image in my sig............
She could be good. I'd rather have her be a bit younger. I think having Supergirl and Superman at the same age changes their relationship a bit too much.
Well, the actress playing Supergirl is what, 8 years younger then Tom Welling? So maybe the character will be younger too.

2 and 3 are very good, but the series basically explodes onto the a-list with volume four. Volumes 1-3 hint at the world Willingham created, March of the Wooden Soldiers officially catapults it into the all-time great fantasies. And it only gets better from there.

Bedard, huh? That makes me wary.
Yeah, I'm not going to be buying the book. I've never been a very big Outsiders fan.
I really like the reasoning that Batman is also on this team. Hopefully he's more like Oracle...calling the shots behind the scenes...
Batman’s playing both sides of the fence. He’s still with the Justice League, recognizing that sometimes you need the “Dream Team” of super-heroes to handle the worst threats that come along. But Batman’s also a savvy observer of the human condition, and he senses a shift in the DCU zeitgeist. A number of recent events: Black Adam’s rampage in World War III, the murder of Bart Allen, the Amazon invasion of Washington DC, etc., have pushed public mistrust of meta-humans to an all-time high. Batman also knows that super-villains are mysteriously vanishing; he does the math and sees forces at work which the Justice League isn’t designed to combat. In fact, send the Justice League or any official “good guys” against certain organizations or governments, and you lose the public acceptance those teams rely on. So Batman needs a strike team that the public already thinks are bad so if they raid the U.N. or the Vice President’s office, people shrug and say, “There they go again.” And the Outsiders fit that bill perfectly.
This actually makes a lot of sense.
Great to hear that. It richly deserves it. I still find it completely inexplicable that Amazons Attack got the big summer event push over this, though. I mean, even I don't like Amazons Attack. :nonono2:?
And when Ray diesn't like something from DC, you know it's bad.
So I guess it's official..John Stewart is the new JLA Green Lantern.
:nonono2:
Yeah, that's just... bad. We'll miss out on the great dynamic between Hal, Dinah, and Roy.
Why?

Yeah, that's what Gotham needs. Another dark, mysterious, violent vigilante who runs around at night!
And seriously, an ongoing? Someone's being generous. I give it eight issues. It'll debut out of the top 100.

I was a little underwhelmed by Ex Machina's first three chapters, does it pick up? I'll read it regardless, it's BKV.
I am so pumped for Book Z. Has he said when it'll be released or at least when we'll get some information on it.

According to LITG, JH Williams will be doing the art on a new Batwoman book....which kind of brings to mind Maleev drawing a Slapstick mini.
Also, as minipalooza continues apace, the creative teams for some of the upcoming Titans miniseries are as follows: Cyborg by Adam Beechen and Ken Lashley, and Beast Boy by J. Torres and Mike Norton.
And Peter Tomasi may be taking over both Nightwing and GLC. The former needs new blood now, but I think Gibbons is just hitting his stride on GLC.

Well I think the Batwoman costume is pretty cool. So that's a plus if JH is drawing her. And if you get a completely new writer to develop her a lot, then it could work. Make her a crime fighter who is a lesbian, not a lesbian character who happens to fight crime, which is probably what's boring about her character, the fact that it's just so "let's create a gay character!".
Those Titans teams sound cool. And anything new on Nightwing would please me!!

Full Sales Estimates are up for June 2007 complete with the Top 300 Books and actual numbers. If you're interested to see where Catwoman,Shadowpact,All-New Atom and snicker Aqualoser ended up.
http://www.icv2.com/articles/home/10906.html
In the meantime look at these numbers and try not to make your head explode . That's how little sense they make.
May 2007
Green Lantern 20 $2.99 DC 60,537
June 2007
Green Lantern : Sinestro Corps Special 1 $4.99 DC 56,820
Now i know there's multiple printings coming and when the July numbers come in i'll add them up but... how do you lose 3717 "readers" with a story like this? Heads should roll in the marketing dept.

Which one shaves, which one has a landing strip, and who is just completely hairy???
I'm guessing Supergirl is totally shaven since she's a slut. And I was going to say Miss Martian is totally hairy since she's just too innocent to even look in that region...but Martians have no hair, right?
And I'm only writing this to see if Ray has a reply... :scared:
By the way, Dinah was showing a little bit of camel toe in that first issue...

I know i'm a broken record on this issue, but not having an ongoing doesn't mean the character has to be sent to limbo or marginalized. Look at Dr.Strange,Nick Fury or Namor at Marvel. HUGE parts of the Marvel U but they're all lacking ongoing books.
It CAN work for Aquaman too (Even this lame-ass imposter) but i doubt DC will listen and we'll have Aquaman Volume 43 # 1 by the end of 2008 at the LATEST.

Well just look at Luke Cage. He hasn't had his own book since the early nineties, but just look at how prominent his character is right now.
I agree, Aquaman can be kept a high profile character without having his own book.

Normally, I would be really pissed about this. DC is making Countdown more innaccessible to the casual reader, or one on a budget. I'm going to play along this one time because I like the overall story idea. I just hope there is a really cool payoff.

Less so than Adventure, but the backup looks to be Countdown related. The main feature is just a repackaging of the pre-cancelled Dr. Fate series.

I liked Adam Strange and Starfire and Animal Man together during 52...but it seemed like a natural progression from Infinite Crisis. This seems too forced to me. I don't really see this group as a team...and I don't see why Animal Man would leave his family again.

Come on, what have I complained about lately?:p
I'm apprehensive about the almost-weekly Amazing, but I'm just not going to buy it.

Oh, and Captain Carrot. I don't care if they call it a Countdown tie-in, that's just a step too far.
Ray G.
07-17-2007, 09:09 AM
But how can you complain about all the Countdown tie-ins if you're buying every single one?
Because I'll probably enjoy reading them anyway.
Doesn't mean it's not an epic money grab anyway. Not many people have so few hobbies that they can afford to spend almost all their disposable income on comics. :)

Everything!
Trade instead? Might be worth it if you're getting a trade every 2-3 months (assuming arcs are six issues).
Tell you a little secret Matt.
ITs the same as what they're doing now except all the books are called Amazing.

My suggestion: drop books by writers you don't like all that much like Bedard and buy some old trades.
And yes, it is hard dividing up money for different hobbies:surrend:

Total maybe, but not in here where it counts!
And at least I don't like Dr Who!

I don't want to get trades simply because I can assume that I won't be a fan of all the writers, which will mean at least partially I'll be buying the book for the character, not the story.

I've actually enjoyed Bedard's DC work for the most part, and I loved Tieri's Underworld. Really, there are no Countdown tie-ins at this point that I simply feel obligated to pick up. I like the looks of most of them.
What's falling fast are the non-continuity books. All four Classified/Confidential books, as well as Superman/Batman, are all but dropped. I'm also getting ready to quit most of my Wildstorm titles besides Ex Machina and Tranquility.

It's very unlikely that I'll be a big enough fan of all three or four writers to add books to my list. Especially since some of my favorites have already confirmed that they are not involved.

Oh, I would kill to see him take on Peter (not Spider-Man, Peter Parker)
I'm just extremely selective on monthly titles. I've cut down the list tremendously as of late. The true test will come when RAS gets another monthly, I don't know if I could hold off on that.

The problem with it was the problem that I often have with What Ifs. There's too much story for one issue, and it comes out feeling forced and rushed.

My main problem is it seemed they took 'what if' for 'lets make everyone act how they totally wouldn't. In most what ifs one minor/major thing is changed and what happens next is true to the characters.
Some really 'whaaaaa?' moments in this one.

Yeah, really.
I don't necessarily think that if Aunt May took the bullet instead of Uncle Ben, Peter would have snapped like that. They did another What If with this concept in the original series that was far superior.

It's more than that though. They're talking about DC like Harry Potter talks about Voldemort. It's that "DC raped and killed my parents" attitude. I don't get that. I haven't been all that thrilled with Marvel lately, but I don't feel the need to pop into every single Marvel thread and comment on how much everything sucks. I can't understand that mentality.

I love DC but can understand the hate. It's a bit too much. It's not really exciting anymore at DC. They're flooding the market with so called big events and they're not too good. Dedicated readers are having stories invalidated by all of these stupid ploys by DC to fix their "mistakes". It's not needed. DC was supposed to be less dark and more fun after IC...but they kill 2 of their popular characters in Superboy and Kid Flash, left fans of Wally West hanging for over a year with this failed storyline, and no longer showcase their top character...Anarky!
And don't get me started on Match...

Not officially, but with the title "Final", rumors of Mark Millar wanting a fresh start if he goes to DC, and the obscene rate they're killing off their younger heroes at, it looks more and more like it. I just hope they pick good teams if they did reboot it. Some of Millar's suggestions were horrible.

That seems more like conjuncture than "looks more and more like it".
But heres my own conjuncture; it really looks like they did so much recent rebuilding that I cant imagine they'll do any kind of reboot.
Why bother with 52 & 1 Year Later then?

I could be completely offbase, but since DC is corporate owned I get this impression the $$$$ guys have more power and control than they should. And no, I don't think they dicate storylines or whatever a la the Marvel money guys did during the Clone Saga, but I'm sure there's a pressure for more big events to sell more books, especially in this post-Civil War World.

The saddest part of all the numbers would be LOWER without the crossovers and tie-ins. Whenever you have a crossover, the books are always higher due to OCD Collector Mentality (the same of which I suffer from....).
It's just a no-win situation really. The market is still NOWHERE strong enough to support good stories on its own, these huge events are a very necessary evil. At least we get a few under the radar books out of it since the companies are making more money.
