For those of us wondering what Daniel Acuna's stuff looks like before it's put through the Glossyrizer 2000, well her ya go...

That's no half bad. I would hope that they don't glossy it on Flash, and maybe use a different colorist, but I don't think they will.
Vonn Hennigar

That's the thing, with a book like Flash, i think they'll glossy it up even more!
Motion Blurs, mirror images and every other photoshop trick they can think of will be thrown on the wall.
We'll just have to wait and see if it overpowers the story or not.

Yeah, Acuna is pretty damn good when he's not over-glossied. Same for Guedes. Their raw skill is pretty impressive, it's just often ruined by the tricks.

Yeah but Empress added a much need African American hero to the DCU at that time. The only other minority hero at the time was Steel(I think). Plus Empress origin tied directly into Arrowette and her retirement.
Also what the fuck could the girls teach Spoiler at that time. Secret was crazy.(Not her fault look at her brother.) Cassie was a joke at the time.(Just lusting after Superboy. And now she just mourns him. HA!) Arrowette gave up the superhero gig because of Mommy issues(I don't get why the JSA haven't contacted her. She is Ollie's daughter). Empress was a rookie that stood around and looked cute.
My thoughts are Robin didn't want Spoiler around YJ because Superboy would have stolen her away from him.
I was just looking for something in this thread, and I came across this post which I never responded to.
Cissie was Ollie's daughter? I thought that was just an unsubstantiated rumor on the web. It would be cool if it was true, but I doubt it'll ever be brought up now that there's another girl bowman around.
And to make this bump a little more worthwhile, I give you a cartoon.

According to Winick, "She's not dying of AIDS, she's living with HIV."

Seriously, though, was there any in-canon support for the Arrowette=GA's daughter theory?

I could be remembering it wrong but I thought it was eluded to in her first appearance which happened in an issue of Impulse(sorry Ray).
But Ollie is know to be a player so I really don't think it would that far of a stretch to say she was one day down the line.

And she can live for quite some time with HIV...and in comic terms that means for a very, very long time...
Peter David told Cissie's story. It's a complete tale...she really doesn't need to come back as Arrowette. It would be nice to see her interact with Cassie though.

If she ever does come back as Arrowette, it would have to be for a very good reason, most likely out of necessity to help her friends.
Frankly, as long as Didio's in charge, I hope she and Secret are hidden safely away where he can't get to them. :scared:

So, I've begun reading the first of Kirby's Fourth World Omnibuses. I'm about a 100-150 pages into it and it rocks! I didn't realize Kirby had a hand in the creation of so much Superman shit (mostly related to Cadmus: the new Newsboy Legion, Habitat, DNAliens, return of the Guardian, etc). And, the Fourth World stuff is great, of course. I didn't realize Scott Free wasn't the first Mister Miracle!

That's exactly what I'm counting on. I want to see some fantastic larger than life adventures but still maintain the down to earth writing style McDuffie excels in. The cast will play a huge role, but I'm not too worried.
Meltzer's problem wasn't the team in my opinion, it's what he did with them. Which was basically nothing.

The thing is, the thing I liked most about McDuffie's JLU(the extended family feel, with multi-generational League) has already been done to perfection in JSA. Still, though, I think JLA will be very good. And I like that McDuffie seems to be settling in for a long run!

Like how creators like Christopher Priest write such incredible stories but don't get met with high sales while "hot Wizard" creators can do very subpar books but constantly place in the top 10.

I totally agree with both you guys, Cyclone to this point has been written so much like Justice was in the early issues of Kurt Busieks Avengers series - too much of a cheerleader and all around idol worshipper that is impossible for me to like the character at all. She has mostly been cringe worthy thru most of her appearances. Ive talked to my friends about the storyline (before this Lightning Saga hoo-ha) and expressed how i thought she was going to either turn into the biggest JSA shill (for lack of a better word) character or something will happen and she will turn evil or otherwise betray the team.

Now that is a FANTASTIC comparison. It was worse with Justice because he was such an established character before that Busiek's writing was beyond grating, but you totally nailed it.
Johns really needs to dial her back or, yeah, have her betray the team horribly.

Justice was a case of an established character being essentially de-aged and turned into a superhero groupie. That was horrible. It would be like Nova joining the Avengers and going gaga over meeting Spider-man now.
See, I like Cyclone, because while she's all sweet and perky now, it was implied in the first issue that she's got some darkness under that. They mentioned she's bipolar, I believe. I think Johns has some big plans for her, and the perkiness is to lull us into a false sense of security. She won't betray the team, but I wouldn't be surprised if her issues wind up getting someone seriously hurt.

Ask Quesada. When they announced the new Panther series, they decided to go in a new direction with Hudlin.

Upgrayedd, I looked at your horrific sig image and it didn't disappoint. I feel cold now. Very, very cold.
They've never really had a distinct look for Two-Face. I actually prefer his scarring not to be too grotesque. I think it's a very interesting touch that he was actually bipolar before his scarring, and this just triggered it.
Fair enough, but there should be some scarring.

Why did DC even put Amazons Attack out? It makes little sense at all. Couldnt they have held that off for maybe another year or 2. The whole island of Themyscira (sp?) was "just" destroyed in IC (which now feels even more shoe-horned in, considering how quickly they have returned) If WW had had a chance to develop a new character arc and get its footing, maybe next year or maybe even at the end of this year it would have been more understandable. As it stands now, WW has only had what 8 issues of her own title before the amazons returned. Say what you will about the slap-dash way Marvel got rid of Thor and the whole Asgard thing, but at least they have been gone gone for 2-3 years now.
Unless the ending is totally knock me out of my chair spectacular I am going to have to chalk this up to yet another failure and mis-step of DC in the post-IC / OYL / 52 / "New Earth" era.
I really hope that Sinestro Corps is good. Anyone get the feeling that Johns might be getting ready to leave GL once this cross-over storyline is finished? or is it just me?

I agree with all your points about the Amazons stuff, Chinaski, but I do think the series itself has been fairly well written and drawn to this point. I'm not reading the tie-ins, though, so I don't know how those are, and again--I do think your idea about delaying the return would make much more sense.
As for Sinestro Corps, I hope it's good, too. I hadn't thought about the possibility of Johns leaving GL once this cross-over storyline is finished, but I think you might be onto something. Maybe he wants to move onto another books, and will feel like he's had a healthy run? Certainly, about 30 issues is a long run by today's standards, and I'd be intrigued to see what book he'd do next.

I think the art on AA has been great. Pete Woods has really been knocking it out of the park on this mini, and I hope he can get onto a book that is a little higher profile or at least one that I have more interest in once this mini is finished. Wasnt he doing the first OYL issues of Superman or Action Comics? As far as the story goes, I think it is just ok, not great but not awful. Servicable is what I would say - to be honest. I am not reading any of the tie-ins, so I cant speak about them either.
I dont know that he is, Im just guessing here, but I could understand Johns possibly leaving GL, and even see why he would want to. Counting Rebirth he will have done close to 30 issues of GL and Im sure thats enough for anyone. I wasnt all that crazy about some of the early issues, but the first 2-3 OYL issues were great. I hope that if he is leaving, he doesnt just abandon the title mid-arc like he did Teen Titans and to a certain extent the last volume of JSA.

Yeah, he's doing excellent work on the book, and he did in fact do 4 OYL issues of Superman, and 4 of Action Comics. I guess the story itself is only servicable, but as a fan of Pfieffer from Catwoman--Woods used to draw that book when Pfieffer first jumped on, for the record--I think the writing itself is at least as good as most mainstream DC books.

I'd forgotten he'd sort of done so with JSA, too, and the recent Teen Titans creative team change stuff has been somewhat of a mess. The whole universe lately seems like such a mess. Nope, just a gut feeling by Chinaski. The war storyline is sort of similar to the Titans East story that Johns left TT in the middle of, but that was a special case. He didn't want to be writing TT anymore, and I don't get that feeling with GL. He really seems to be putting his best into the book, same as JSA. And he is launching Booster Gold now.
Plus, his Marvel work has been iffy at best.

Flash #13 - :thumb:
A horrible, editorially mandated story, well executed by the people forced to produce it. Bart really steps up in this issue, shows what a great character he is and shows that he’s more then deserving of carrying the Flash Mantle, and the…. Guggenheim finally got a good handle on the rogues this issue, I thought they were a bit wanting in previous issues.
He’s a Flash, and a time traveler, he’ll be back, though honestly he probably shouldn’t be.
Justice Leauge #10 - :thumb:
Well, the Lightning Saga is over, and I liked it. I’m still a little perturbed over the choice of which Legion they used in the crossover, just confuses the continuity even more. The only good part about using the outdated Legion continuity is that you get to see Superman interact with them, which is pretty cool. As the last issue, with lots of stuff tying up there aren’t too many character moments, which is a shame because that’s what Meltzer writes best.
But Wally’s back. Yeah Fuckers. It seriously helps out this series that it brought Wally, Linda, and the twins home. Sure Bart’s dead, but we got an even better Flash out of it. He joined the legion awfully quick, but whatever. And yeah, there’s some mystery with the Legion in the future having trapped someone in a lightning rod, I know Ray thinks it’s a flash, but I think that’s wishful thinking on his part, it’s indistinguishable.

I really didn’t like this issue, and I find myself unable to really say why. Something just bothered me about it. It’s definitely sub par work for Willingham here, and this is two crappy Pact issues in a row. I think mostly my problem is Zauriel, who I don’t like much as a character and don’t think was too well written here. I like the idea of what’s going on with Blue Devil, but the execution leaves something to be desired.

Agreed on the JLA/JSA crossover being way too soon, but I am kind of liking it - which is saying something because I have never really followed the LoSH and no little to nothing about some of their members that keep popping up here. Its too bad that it had to be forced in so early in the JSA run so Meltzer could fulfill his fantasy of writing a JLA/JSA/Legion storyline (because that has to be why this was done so soon after IC/52/OYL etc.)
I forgot Pfieffer wrote Catwoman prior to IC with Woods on art, that was a real good book at the time, but something didnt really click for me with the OYL jump. It was ok, but it wasnt as good as before. Is Woods able to do a regular book, or is he more of a special projects kind of guy? Id love to see more of his work around the DCU. Maybe he could be the new artist for Nightwing when they get a new writer after Wolfmans run is over.

I admit that I gave up on WW around the same time that Heinberg did, so I dont know the lead in to AA, but how is Hippolyta still alive, and why is she killing kids? I read the first issue and was really confused as to why. It was great the DC editorial gave us footnotes as to which issues to go check out (hey Marvel, maybe you could do the same with some of your storylines, it aint that difficult) I only read issue 1 and it didnt floor me, except for the art, so maybe I will read the trade at Borders when it comes out. Or if I find it in a cut out bin.
I never heard about Didio screwing Johns over on TT, whats the story behind that?
Nope, just a gut feeling by Chinaski. The war storyline is sort of similar to the Titans East story that Johns left TT in the middle of, but that was a special case. The similarities in the story arcs are really what is giving me that feeling, its really just a gut thing, but it would not suprise me. I hope he leaves it a little more gracefully than some of his other exits.
Johns' work on Avengers was some of the best Avengers stories since Avengers Forever, as far as Im concerned. And I dont think the title has been anywhere near as good since he left. If you want to talk about editorial interference with his work on a title, I read somewhere that Jemas rejected a Johns script because "too much happened" in the issue. According to the story Johns got the script back, cut it into 3 or 4 issues and padded the rest out, script accepted.
Why would Dan Didio try and mess with the golden boy of DC. Geoff Johns is, for my money, the best writer at DC today. He has reverence for all the worlds and ages of the DCU but is not slavishly devoted or enamored with it that it cripples his stories (*cough Mark Waid * cough) If there was 1 writer that I thought DC could not possibly do without it is Geoff Johns. While Im not crazy with how he left the last JSA book, and what happend with Flash after he left is a crime and more recently TT, he really knows what it takes to tell a great DCU story. Didio needs his head examined if he thinks he can tell a better story then Johns.

Speaking of AA, in Countdown, we get mostly a headline..."Amazons are attacking" We don't really get into that story. Is that how the rest of the DC will be handled. Countdown will be like an advertisement to what's going on in the other books. If so, I think that works better than trying to tackle all of these other events in the one CD book. However, that also means that the big players won't be in it as much..... thoughts?

I'm so sick of these zombies. Isn't this thing played out yet, or are they just going to go full throttle into the ground until everyone hates it?
As long as it continues to sell...

Basically, Hippolyta was brought back from the dead by Circe, and she wants revenge for her daughter being treated shabbily by man's world over the Max Lord fiasco. It was believed at first that Circe was controlling her, but then Hippolyta killed Circe and proved that it really was her and she really was evil.
I never heard about Didio screwing Johns over on TT, whats the story behind that?
The similarities in the story arcs are really what is giving me that feeling, its really just a gut thing, but it would not suprise me. I hope he leaves it a little more gracefully than some of his other exits.

Basically, Didio laid out an editorial mandate that Nightwing and Superboy were to die in Infinite Crisis, and Bart had to be aged to become the new Flash. Johns was against all of this. He felt Nightwing was too big to die, and he had long-term plans in Titans for Superboy and Kid Flash. He fought long and hard, and Levitz eventually stepped in about Nightwing, but Johns held fast on eliminating Johns' two favorite characters from TT. Johns had to scramble to put together a new cast for TT, and it shows in his writing in the OYL issues that he wasn't really into it. Now, after it turns out that Kid Flash was only taken for an elaborate year-long "punk'd" routine, and was never actually intended to be the permanent new Flash, I can see Johns being even angrier that his two favorite characters from the book he built are both dead by editorial mandate.

Yeah. No crossover at all.
I just thought it was lame they didnt say, "hey, Flash fans, check out JLA #10" at least. Sure, you got the complete story in both books, but if you were only reading Flash and didnt know about the JLA thing, you would probably feel lost come All-Flash #1 (worst. title. ever.)

Bad title, but it's gonna be a great book. *crosses fingers*

I hope more DC books become editorially mandated. Seriously, that's what made super hero comics in the 90's so great :-?

Well basically the Amazons are acting like the real Amazons of mythology who were not politically correct in the least.
Killing men and yes even boys or baby boys were their way.

That cover by Sienkiewicz is horrible. Sorry, but I just dont see the appeal of that guy. I think the main title should be good, I just hope Waid still has something new and fresh to say about The Flash and that Acuna can keep a somewhat decent schedule.
