So Action Comics? The artist put little shorts on Supergirl under her skirt, not her traditional blue underpants! What the hell? Is anyone at DC watching these things! This is the worst thing I've ever seen!

Not sure why everyone was a little let down by JSA #6. I thought this was a great issue- art, dialogue, and set up for the final issue. I was engrossed the whole time- Damn it- I just might read again right now.

Master Jack Rabbitt

Late reviews!

Firstly, this issue threw me off guard. I was expecting this issue to be the concluding issue of the arc. As such, I was expecting an ending and was somewhat disappointed when it didn’t happen. But, that’s my fault and not the creative team.

This issue was pretty good. Not too different then the last couple issues. It essentially boils down to solid fun with the Rogues. What’s not to love? To no one’s surprise, Inertia double crosses the Rogues to further his own personal goal of connecting to the Speed Force. Everyone here is in-character. I loved Bart’s interaction with the police at the beginning of the book.

The art is great and about what we’ve come to expect from Tony Daniel.

I anxiously await next issue as it promises to be quite insane

More to come, as I find the time and inclination.

What the hells going on with the characterization of Jason Todd?

This Countdown era (All 1 month of it) Jason Todd is nothing like the character i've been semi-familiar with the past 2 years.

I sincerely doubt they know. But frankly the characterization of Jason has seemed to waver based on who writes him.

Winick = Asshole Punisher-esque vigilante who likes to fuck with Batman's head. Won't kill innocents, but will use them as pawns.

Johns = Violent, slightly psychotic villain with insecurities a mile wide and a huge grudge against Tim Drake.

Jones = Cackling psycho who likes to play dress-up. Pretty incompetent to boot. Tends to get eaten by/turned into giant bugs.

Beechen = Frat boy jackass with a pechant for nut shots. Doesn't seem to see them coming himself.

Countdown Crew = Slightly emo hard-edged hero who's just trying to do the right thing, even if other heroes don't agree with it. Angsts about "being on borrowed time". His secret ID is apparently public knowledge, yet people haven't googled his name and found the Bruce Wayne connection yet.

Still not sure if I will be buying Booster Gold. I'm tight on cash right now, but the first issue is less than a buck through DCBS. I like Geoff Johns, but him only being on for a couple of issues is worrying, I'm not too crazy about Dan Jurgen's artwork, and I'm more than a little afraid this will be one of those projects that only appeals to hardcore, continuity fans, ala Countdown. I will give it a shot, at least the first 1 or 2 issues, but I cant say I am overly excited.

Booster has a lot of momentum right now- this book should be great.
I re-read JSA- still like ish 6, but it suffers slightly from being part of a cross-over. The story is fun, but we don't get as much characterization and team interaction. That is what made the first 4 issues great for me. Hopefully, we'll get back to that goodness in ish 7.

Congrats on everybody's date nights. I, however, had to watch 4 episodes of
Scooby-Doo with my daughter- love the quality time- but Scoooooby- ugh.

I'm skipping all Countdown tie-ins. Instead of showing no support for it, I'm setting out against it by dropping books I read during crossovers. I want the companies to do events like WWH, where it's completely your choice whether you want to get involved.

I'm sticking with the Avenger's books, but then again I have like 10 issues left on a subscription so I dont have much of a choice. I am enjoying both though, so I dont see me leaving anytime soon.

I agree about WWH though.

I'm not buying JSA while it crosses over with JLA, but it is frustrating, just because I know that some important stuff probably happened in #5 and #6 that will hurt my reading experience of #7, which really tick's me off, especially when JSA is one of the few DCU books I actually want to read.

What I'm doing is just going through DCBS, and any book that tie-into Countdown, I'm not buying. I'm not a collector, so I dont mind the gaps, though it is annoying that an issue would say "Countdown tie-in", and there may not be anything overly important to Countdown, but will have something important happen to the actual book itself happen in it, but that's what I'm doing. Of course all this could be avoided if Dan Didio would ever read a book not from the 1970's and start running the company like it's the year 2007.

They didn't rate anything under 7 out of 10:?

June’s Detective #833 kicks off a two-part story with Zatanna and Batman investigating the death of Z’s assistant in a fatal magic-related accident. “As the two heroes work together, they also have to try and rebuild the trust that was shattered between them during Identity Crisis,” Dini reveals. “Their trail leads them to a confrontation to the mysterious magician Ivar Loxias, introduced in Detective #824. Issue #833 ends on a truly horrific note for Zatanna and with Batman in one of the worst dilemmas of his career. After that, readers can expect the return of Two-Face in an extended story, along with reappearances by the Riddler, the new Ventriloquist and Scarface and the debut of some deadly new villains.”

And they ranked Action higher than Superman.

Dini and Buseik's plans look downright awesome.

With Action, what exactly is going on with Kubert? Has he given any excuses? Because he could have probably finished an issue by now doing a panel a day.

And was anyone else underwhelmed by A.S.S? I liked it, but it wasn't groundbreaking for me.

Action #850 SUCKED!!! I thought Busiek was just gold on Superman...but apparently Action comics sucks the life out of all its writers. This title is just a fucking silver age mess full of shit. I was planning on picking up more issues of Action Comics by Busiek but I think i'll just skim through them in the store instead.

More reviews!

I’m not sure why there’s so much hate on for the Checkout storyline. This first part was quite enjoyable. I fully expected the tone and style of this issue to have shifted from previous issues (as this is part of an Outsiders crossover), but I found this to be very much in the same vein as the rest of the series so far. The scenes taking down the various members of the Outsiders were all played out well.

No real complaints about the art. There has been better pencilers on this series, but Bennett did a fairly solid job.

There’s not much else to say, I suppose. Fun stuff and a good start to the Checkout crossover. And I have to say that I’m a sucker for covers that combine to form one image. :-D

Not as good as the first part of the crossover, but still decent. The bulk of this issue really could have been reduced and, actually, these first two parts would have made a better part 1 together if they’d both been cut-down. The majority of this issue is spent with Nightwing trying to free Grace from the Checkmate headquarters and then seeking out the rest of the team. However, this is all a farce. The rest of the team is fine and has already been debriefed and the mission that Checkmate wants them to run. Ergo, this issue was a bit of wasted time, though I still had fun reading it.

I must say that I really am looking forward to reading the next part, which I have sitting next to me. A trip to Oolong? Hells yes!

Feh, she's gone in two weeks. She's heading back home to Maryland for the summer, so I've got to use the time I've got to make sure I'm firmly entrenched in the boyfriend role by then, so we can pick up in the fall. But after that....well, this thread will be here to distract me. :thumb:

McKeever's run is gonna be interesting, on the surface, it looks like an awesome creative team, but I worry it's gonna get bogged down into Countdown too heavily.
My first arc very loosely ties into a fall event, but not Countdown. And #50 is a crossover with Blue Beetle #18, but not in a "part 1/part 2" way. You can read one comic without reading the other.

I'd prefer to keep the series free from the recent event-itis.

I agree 100%

I'm really debating whether or not to drop the Avengers books.

The first issue of Mighty was superb. The thought balloons were used in a way that made perfect sense and enhanced the story. But now they're annoying, pointless and repetitive. Meanwhile, NA is just too much of an action story, as evidenced by Yu who (while fantastic in the fighting scenes) has some pretty ugly faces IMO. I think I'll drop it and just buy stories like NA #26.

I re-read JSA- still like ish 6, but it suffers slightly from being part of a cross-over. The story is fun, but we don't get as much characterization and team interaction. That is what made the first 4 issues great for me. Hopefully, we'll get back to that goodness in ish 7.

Sacrifice was complete bullshit. Plus you had all four lead in series, plus a special for each of those sometime during the crisis, so counting all those up you have 40 books in the lead in and the main series, and that doesn't even start with the tie ins in regular books. And part of the Civil War tie-ins were not money grab issues, but issues to plug the hole cause by delays.

They might be used again if Canon fodder is needed. Or some writer might dig them out for a story and flesh them out. All characters with potential, and the fact that they were so poorly developped might actually help future writers, give them more freedom to build the characters.

Number of tie ins doesn't matter (and I would take that bet since DC insists everything from Identity Crises was a build up to IC) it's the quality of the story.

Civil War appears to be more generally liked than IC, I hear more people saying they were robbed by IC than Civil War.

To me, while Civil War may have had more tie-ins, only a couple were important. Really, the only tie-in that really seemed to matter was Amazing Spider-Man, the rest were just "expanded" views of what the characters felt during the War.

To me, the biggest difference between Infinite Crisis and Civil War was the concept. I could sum up Civil War in one sentence, I would need paragraph's to sum up Infinite Crisis and what it was supposed to be about. I also thought Civil War was easier to jump onto with, Infinite Crisis needed you to be familiar with the original Crisis book. I also thought Civil War pushed the MU in a new and interesting direction. It may be temporary, but for right now, the MU is doing a lot of different stories with characters, especially Iron Man. I thought Infinite Crisis missed the mark on that, in the end nothing major seemed to happen to push good, new stories out.

BTW, McKeever sold me on Teen Titan's by saying it wont be tie-ing into to much. I'm assuming the fall event in the Green Arrow/Black Canary wedding.

I never heard of Kid Crusader before the Teen Titans East arc. And really, I blame Johns. At least a year's worth of excitement with the announce of the arc...and barely being able to see it through. His heart wasn't in the title with the loss of Kid Flash and Superboy - I don't blame him - he should have left much earlier. It would have been a nice FU to Didio. Johns single handedly brought the title back to the forefront of the DCU and Didio shits on one of DC's better selling titles.

Agreed. The first arc was mediocre(more a Doom Patrol story than anything), and the second was fun, but nothing exceptional. I really liked the Kid Devil solo issue, but that was the only standout. It was clear from the beginning that Johns didn't want to be writing the book anymore. And that's clearly Didio's fault.

They chained Raven up and subjected her to hallucinations. At some point, Raven rolled her eyes and asked Deula if she'd like to be a good guy again. Deula, being Deula, agreed and kicked Enigma in the head and rejoined the team. Enigma went off...somewhere, and Deula went off to be killed by a Monitor in Countdown.

As to last week's rumour that Kurt Busiek will be writing the "Final Crisis" project for DC Comics, Kurt posted at the DC boards and ComicBloc;

"See, there's a problem with answering questions like this:

"If I tell you it's not true, then if Rich someday guesses right, and I decline to tell you it's not true, then you know he's right, and I just let a rumor column take over announcing things for me, which I don't want to do.

"On the other hand, if it were true, and I tell you so, then I imagine DC would be unhappy that I was confirming stuff they hadn't announced yet, which I wouldn't want to do either.

"So my general practice is, I try not to comment on rumors one way or the other -- all confirming or denying does is let the rumor columns guess whatever they like, and I'll act as their unpaid safety net. And I don't want to do that.

"I'm not always successful at not commenting -- sometimes I get asked about it before I know it's a column thing, and sometimes they just mangle something I've already announced and get it wrong (like the last time I made Rich's column), and I feel like I should say something. And then it turns into a back-and-forth thing, and I don't like those, either.

"So we've got a few possibilities here:

"1. I'm doing it, and I won't tell you because I think DC should get to announce this stuff.

"2. I'm not doing it, and I won't tell you because I don't want to help Rich out any.

"3. I'm not doing it, but someone at DC says I am to mess Rich up, and wouldn't want me messing up the disinformation.

"4. Dan Didio's decided I'm the perfect guy for it, and they're talking about it at DC but haven't called to offer it yet, so I have no idea.

"5. Monkeys.

"In the end, DC will announce who's writing what -- when was the last time you needed a rumor column to find out who was working on a big project before it came out? -- and it'll probably be months from now, so any flap that goes on now will be mostly forgotten.

"But keep in mind -- Rich announced I'd be writing two issues of WONDER WOMAN after Jodi Picoult's run and before Gail Simone's. How'd that work out?"

And if he'd have emailed me that when I emailed Kurt for comment, I'd have printed it with the original article.

Cats smell bad too...plus those fuckers shed. Cats have no loyalty except to themselves. Kittens are cute...but after a year...they're just annoying furballs with no redeeming purpose in life. There's a reason why all older, crazy women have cats - cause cats suck the life out of you.

I don't know why you have no room on your list for monkeys though. Those guys are the best. Any TV Show or movie with a monkey instantly becomes funnier, just for having them. Especially when they're dressed up in little outfits. Hell, I even watched that Curious George movie because that damn monkey always got into some crazy funny hijinks!

What's the kind of cat that never acts the same way twice and confuses everyone around them?

Aren't all cats finicky like Morris?

Well, they hate everyone. You must earn their tolerance. :D

I was attacked at least 3 times last time I was at a friend's house by his cat.
