So, we are a little over a month away...who is going to HeroesCon this year?

I know I will be there.

Had a fun time last year (well, mostly outside of the actual con), so I'm back again this year!

Yes. A great convention in a great city. All the creators are accessible and the vibe is more laid-back compared to other big cons like WWChicago or San Diego.

I'm holding out hope. I didn't know I was going to Seattle til the week of the show. I didn't think I'd be going to Chicago this year but then flights dropped down under a $100 and I charmed my way into some time off. So, never say die!

If I don't make it though, someone be a prince and get me a Josh Middleton sketch and video more Defferdancing. :)

Yeah, I think I'm paying about $75-100 more this year for the roundtrip flight... Cheaper airport, parking-wise, tho', so it almost balances out. Charlotte flights just seemed to be a little more expensive this year, no matter which airport I picked.

Last year, we all stopped by Defferding's table and gave our cell phone #'s.

After the show closed, we met outside and walked to the hotel and got something to eat and hung out.

But yeah, adding your board name to your tag will help.

I'm for serious getting a sketch from you this time, Moreno! Maybe me with my head in the toilet with Dracula standing over me holding a joint, laughing? Maybe not...

But something badass. I usually try to get a theme going for whatever con I attend for sketches...WWPhilly 05 was all Black Cat sketches...I'm thinking of doing all 80s cartoons this year...Although I REALLY want a Black Cat sketch from Casey Jones.

Oops. SF = Science Fiction/Speculative Fiction, not San Francisco here.

Can't tell you how many times I've misread "SF" on the Boing Boing blog where one author lives in SF and another writes SF.

But thanks!

11.00 am
Welcome to Heroes Convention 07!
Doors open to all attendees.

For Those Wearing Costumes...

We'll have professional costumers circulating throughout the convention each day--they'll choose someone each afternoon for best costume and a prize (to be announced, of course) will be awarded! Best of all, an overall winner will be chosen Sunday afternoon, and will win an even better, even more to be announced prize!

1.00 pm
S.C.A.D. Workshop Series:
Cartooning for Comics and Animation
Room 213 C/D
Basic figure building techniques, conconstruction tips and an overview of cartooning for comic book illustration or animation. Get a leg up and find out how the industry works and what it’s looking for. Part of the weekend long series, hosted by the Savannah College of Art & Design!

2.00 pm
DC Nation
Room 217 A/B
DC Comics' Executive Editor Dan DiDio is joined by editor Michael Siglain and Coordinating Editor Jann Jones for a peek into what are sure to be the most talked about events of the summer. And with these guys in the room, it would scarcely be a surprise if some other DC creators happened to show up unannounced, would it? How exciting!

3.00 pm
S.C.A.D. Workshop Series:
Comic Script Essentials
Room 213 C/D
Where do comics writers get their crazy ideas? And how do they communicate their crazy ideas to an artist, editor, publisher, (or even themselves). Whether you're interested in writing mainstream, experimental, or manga comics, the story is important. Come see how writers do it! Part of the weekend long series, hosted by the Savannah College of Art & Design!

3.30 pm
Golden Idol: The Michael Golden Roast
Room 217 C/D
Michael Golden is one of the most respected illustrators working in comics, past or present. You can tell by the number of working professionals standing in line to meet him at the very few shows he does. But behind closed doors, it's a different story! Join some of HeroesCon's finest as they roast poor, poor Michael Golden; including John Beatty, John Dell, Craig Hamilton, Tony Harris, Dave Johnson, Jason Pearson, Brandon Peterson, and most likely many more! NOTE: This panel may not be suitable for younger fans, as roasts can get, well, heated.

4.00 pm
The Cartoonist: Webcomics, What They Are, And How You Can Do It, Too
Room 211
The best-looking member of our staff sits down with cartoonists Danielle Corsetto and Liz Greenfield to talk turkey: both women are the creators of successful web comics, and they'll be discussing what they do, how they do it, and how you might could do it, too. There is almost surely going to be an inordinate amount of giggling going on as well--but our staff has always been prone to giggling.

5.00 pm
Ghost Rider: To Hell And Back
Room 219
Join the entire Ghost Rider creative team: Daniel Way, Mark Texeira, and Javier Saltares for a discussion of everyone's favorite flame-headed spirit of vengeance. The focus will be on the past, present, and future of the character--from his origins, through his various incarnations throughout the 80's and 90's, and maybe a little peek into his future!

Quickdraw Contest!
Room 214
A HeroesCon tradition! Industry luminaries like Mike Wieringo and Casey Jones got their starts in our Quickdraw Contest, and now it's your turn! And this year it's bigger than ever: Blueline Pro is contributing 2 sheets of high quality 11" x 17" bristol for you to create your masterwork on. Prizes will include up to $50 in Blueline art supplies, and will be awarded for first and second place in three age groups! And best of all, as always our Quickdraw Contest is totally FREE!

7.00 pm
Heroes Convention 07: Day One closes for the day! See you tomorrow!

7.30 pm
Everybody out! All retailers, exhibitors, pros, dealers, and everyone else must be out by 7:30, or security will be ever so upset.

Up Close And Personal: Paul Hornschemeier
Room 211
These days you can't throw a rock without hitting one of Paul Hornschemeier's accolades. But what's he really like? Don't miss it!

Join Newsarama Editor-In-Chief Matt Brady and guests Christos Gage, Peter David, Matt Fraction, Jeff Parker, and Daniel Way for a discussion of what's coming this summer and beyond from Marvel Comics. And maybe--just maybe--you'll get a peek inside the minds and styles of some of the industry's most unique creators! And with Matt Brady in the room, there's just bound to be something newsworthy afoot!

4.00 pm
The Cartoonist: Minicomics--Did You For Real Make That Yourself?
Room 211
Minicomics are almost their own side thing, separate from regular old comics. But if you've been thinking of dipping your toe into the world of cartooning, there's no better way to get some work out there without a lot of money, or a pesky old publisher. And who better to show you! A somewhat snaggle-toothed member of our staff sits down with J. Chris Campbell, Jim Mahfood, Ben Towle, and Rob Ullman--and almost certainly some surprise guests--for a discussion of how cool these little art objects are, and how you can make your own!

S.C.A.D. Workshop Series:
Basic Superhero Anatomy
Room 213 C/D
Wanna Draw SUPERHEROES?? That pesky anatomy thing getting in your way? Heroes Convention Annual Art Auction

Location: Westin Charlotte Ballroom
Our yearly Art Auction has become one of the premiere events in the entire comics community, and you're about to see why! Last year's proceeds, which went to the Heroes Hospitality Fund, helping us pay for the travel arrangements of our incredible guest list, exceeded all expectations! With celebrity auctioneers like Gus Vazquez and Rosario Dawson, it's hardly surprisinging--well, get ready to be hardly surprised again! Gus and Rosario are returning for a second go-round. Note that this will take place in the Westin Charlotte Ballroom, just across Stonewall from the Convention Center, and is sure to be standing room only, so show up early! It's not every day you get to hobnob with your favorite pro's in a relaxed cocktail party setting and bid on some amazing original art at the same time! And with Gus and Rosario returning to reprise their performance from last year, it's a total MUST! See you there!

Doors open to all attendees.

11.30 am
S.C.A.D. Workshop Series:

12.00 pm

We tried hard to come up with a better metaphor, but it's hard. Fortunately much better writers will be on hand at this panel, as Newsarama Editor-In-Chief Matt Brady sits down with Peter David and Robin Furth to discuss their adaptation of Stephen King's epic Dark Tower series. If you've read these novels, you know that this is no easy task! Don't miss what's sure to be one of our most fascinating panels!
