It was good, but I wasn't expecting such a depressing ending. I was just looking for some good goofy fun, but it kind of bummed me out.

I want an audio version of the Mickey Eye theme song. Also: the sequel. It is coming, I'm told... apparently it was a condition of Grant working on 52 or something...

I agree 100% with the goodness and the downerness. I figured that the sequel would have (hopefully) corrected the latter.

I didn't really enjoy it, but it was fun watching a guy named Seaguy ("Semen") running around with a giant sperm for a sidekick...

This is good. The Filth was much weirder. Seaguy Sequel? Bring it on.

Man, no kidding. That ending came out of left field, didn't it?

I really liked it. I don't see why people can't get into stuff that's weird simply for the sake of being weird. It's nice to not have everything handed to the reader in a neat little digestible package. Sometimes you want something to chew on.

You could kinda see it coming if you knew going into reading it that Seaguy was supposed to be a commentary on the status of mainstream superhero books. but yeah, that was a hell of a weird ending all the same. but he nailed exactly how I'd been feeling about marvel for the past 4 years or so.

I love Seaguy. I'll be very pleased if there are indeed sequels in the works.
Anybody around here read Vinmanarama? That's the one Morrison book I haven't picked up. Any good?

It was alright.
Worth a read, at the very least.

It is. It's also pretty damn straightforward for a Morrison story.

Yeah, my only problem with Vimanarama was that it was too short. The first two issues were great, but I thought the third just kind of wrapped everything up too quickly.

Could someone explain the end to me?
It's been a while since I've read it but the Mickey eye people capture and brainwash Seaguy, then he goes back to normal. So what does it mean when he plays chess with death at the end???

That would be a panel from the second issue of the fine BPRD mini-series Garden of Souls, on sale now! :D

Well, dave g,
Did you notice that the sun/moon at the end was now a giant mickey eye?

yeah, so Mickey Eye conquered the moon or whatever, so what does the chess game at the end mean? sorry, like I said it's been a while since I've read it, my mind aint what it used ta be.

I thought it was a little ambiguous but could basically be read two ways:
Option 1. Seaguy has been totally defeated.
The gondolier says of the game in the beginning of the series that "I can never win. It seems so pointless... the rules so arbitrary." A bit like life can feel some times when it seems nothing is going our way; that the universe just isn't fair. And Seadog (the villain) late in the story says "We can still rely on silly games with the gondolier to keep Seaguy out of trouble." So in this reading it's basically just a mindless, pointless distraction: another thing to keep Seaguy's mind off of the real problems in society.
However, I'd like to believe in
Option 2. Seaguy still has some memory of what happened and there's still some hope that he'll "fight back" somehow.
When they're trying to brainwash him, he has a quick flash of Chubby telling him "Dey'll try to make ya forget, Seaguy. But don't forget me. Don't forget Chubby!" To which he replies "Da fug?" (Chubby's catch phrase). On the dock, he ignores everyone (including Seadog) until he gets to the gondolier (Death), who seems surprised to see him. Seaguy's first line of dialogue can be read a s a little confrontational: "You remember me... And my best pal don't you?" The last time we saw Death, he was taking Chubby away from Seaguy. This could be his subtle way of showing that he remembers Chubby and knows that Lucky el Loro hasn't always been his "best pal." Furthermore, his wink when he holds up the executioner piece and says "I'll start on black... and you can be white," reminds us that Death can't tell the difference between the two, but Seaguy can. He's in control of this pointless game. Also, in the background we see that there is "No Xoo" on sale today. At least he made a little bit of difference there. Perhaps it's a bit like the end of A Scanner Darkly in that he's broken, but he remembers just enough to still fight back and do some good in the future..

Well, I finally went and re-read Seaguy again like this thread made me want to do when it started. Still enjoyed it and still hope for a sequel. As Dusto says, I think Seaguy remembering the black and white chess trickery at the end means he does recall the past.

Word I heard was that to get Morrison on 52 DC had to agree to the Seaguy sequels.

Okay, I managed to find Seaguy at my LCS for $2.50 and I picked it up. Morrison is hit and miss with me and I gave it a shot. I might have to read it again but I really didn't get the hype. The art was nice and it had its moments but I often felt like it was Morrison writing on a dare. Like someone dared him to write the goofiest/shittiest book he could and see how it would be received. Maybe I missed something but from the first reading I wasn't remotely impressed. Oh well, for $2.50 I'd read the Clone Saga.
