Congrats to him. I don't know him -- I don't think, though I may know the face from Mid-Ohio Con -- but I was reading the paper and saw a huge article on it. Here's the link.

Interesting that he'd be willing to make monetary numbers public.

It sounds like an interesting premise.

Good for him.

Wish I could see some of his artwork.

wow. i know that's a lot of money to ME... but is that a big/small/average amount to get paid for this sort of thing?

Googling it, I found this:

His use of numbers in place of letters bothers me. The finished book must be fantastic, since it looks rather bland here, and totally out of place with the books Icon has been publishing.

But that's just the initial upfront payment.

true, I'm sure there are going to be payments based on sales and he ultimately keeps ownership and it's a great opportunity

It looks pretty obvious from some of the links that strategic partnerships are also going to be at the core of this series. Looks like the money could make from the clothing designs would pay for this $50k buy-in on its own.

This is an Icon book? I'm surprised they would go that commercial.

It certainly is a different look for Icon and caught my attention. I was a little shocked at the throwing around of figures as well, but then I realized press releases do it all the time on big movie deals, so there's much difference.
