I was listening to 300 Director Zack Snyder talking on Fanboy radio today and at one point he really geeked up about his dream project, I about fell out of my cube - an R rated "stand alone" Star Wars film...apparently he's arranging a date with Lucas after Lucas views 300. He said "rogue jedi" and "light sabers cut people in half - I want to show that."

So, where do we line up to buy tickets?

And sorry if I'm late on this, please don't one star me.

ONE STAR!?!
I asked for it didn't I? Back to making banners - I'll shut up.

i'd love to see a bad ass jedi movie. maybe one from before the jedi and sith went their seperate ways. A real saurai flick with death and destruction.

And a pcture of Gerard Butlet as Obi Wan yelling "These Aren't The Driods YOU ARE LOOKING FOR!" or some silly shit like that

i'm not kidding or being sarcastic either

The 300 soldiers appear on a mountaintop on Leia's home planet. They spy the Death Star approaching, and Leonidas screams his defiance:

THIS IS ALDER-

Boom.

Say what you will, but you gotta admit: The fight scenes in the prequels WERE pretty cool. Especially in Episode III.

Lucas needs to tell this guy to blow. The prequels were a little like a weekend at a Turkish prison, but at least they kept to the tone of the franchise. Neither Snyder nor anywhere should ever get anywhere near an R-rated Star Wars movie. The big boys already stole comics from kids, now we gotta steal Star Wars too?

Well, yeah, but I still like them a lot.

I love the clone wars cartoons too but I don't complain about those being too "Animated." The CGI is just something that all the prequels had (a LOT or) and I accept that.

The rest of the prequels though, you know, the parts when they aren't fighting, suck. They suck SO bad. So I watch the Rifftrax (http://rifftrax.com) versions!

I don't like the idea of an R rated Star Wars. Star Wars is all ages. It doesn't NEED to be R rated.

And also, we've already had people cut in half with Lightsabres :)

You know what bugged me about the prequel action sequences? Too CGI, sure, but what I really missed was the give-and-take of the battles from the original trilogy. In the prequels it was harder to keep track of who was who and you didn't get the sense of which side was "winning" enough to make the battles feel really pitched. Classic trilogy wasn't subtle, but if you were in that kid frame of mind, it was pretty wrenching to watch X-Wing after X-Wing getting toasted in A New Hope, or the Walkers decimating the Rebel troops in Empire. Conversely, it was crazy-exhilerating when the Rebels brought down a Walker or knocked that Super Star Destroyer into the Death Star. I just didn't get that kind of kick-ass back-and-forthing with the prequel space battles. Person-to-person combat fared better, but they still dropped the ball in some key action sequences like the Jedi arena battle. Conceptually it shoulda been the king, but in execution it wasn't even up to Jedi's rescue sequence on Jabba's sail barge.

Not that this project would EVER happen, but if it were....no one is taking back all the existing movies and replacing them.

It's the ol' slippery slope. Years ago I was grousing about the Ultimates reflecting poorly on the Avengers, but was assured they were nice distinct universes, and never the twain should meet. Well, almost immediately video game properties began blurring the lines. Then there was the Ultimate Avengers movie. And now we've got Civil War restructuring the whole of the 616 Marvel Universe to resemble the militarized Ultimate setting.

One R-rated Star Wars movie opens the floodgates and the whole of the property would begin to change afterwards. Sure, there'd always be the original movies, but if popular sentiment started leaning toward the R-rated stuff, you better believe the original movies would end up eclipsed for the next generation - no doubt considered quaint and naive.

i actually really enjoy Phantom Menace and Revenge of the Sith but Attack of the Clones... that movie really has nothing for me.

realisticly I just don't see Lucas allowing this. it's his baby.
i understand that Zack would make it a standalone or whatever but even that... I just don't see it happening.

ps.

Ewoks... what is you profession?!
