Alex just did this one today at Emerald City. Wow. The quality of the pic is horrid because I took it with my camera phone but here it is:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y126/christopherkb/03_31_07_1815.jpg

Love it love it love it. Funny story: I came back to Alex after I picked it up because ten people had told me that it was the best looking Doom they'd ever seen. I tell him this and he says "You're shitting me! Give it back."

Amazing. I'm so framing this.

I sure hope it isn't, because the poor guy is wasting his time; not for sale.

Hey guys,

I just thought I'd jump on the boards and BRAG MY ASS OFF about the Daredevil piece that I got from Alex at the ECCC! Seriously though, I just wanted to tell Alex that I really, really appreciate it and also that I think his entire Daredevil run is the best thing that I ever read in comics. The scan is a little crooked but I think everyone will agree that it's a great piece of art and I couldn't be happier. Now to find a frame...

Amazing sketches! Does he just give them to people?? Those are genuine pieces of art!

I'd like to see Alex go really overboard on some sequential stuff, some rigorous sketchy art blast.

Nope, I know how Maleev thinks.

Thanks again, Alex. A bit larger than what I'm used to, but you were right. This will look great framed.

I saw this one on comicartfans and thought it was a great wolverine. I think Alex out did himself on the inkwashes at the ECC.

Hey Alex, when do I get mine? All these folks are bragging about their commissions, but I've been excitedly waiting since 8/10/06 for the special cover-quality commission we arranged. I know, I know, you keep telling me to "be patient" and I try, but it's so hard when I'm so excited, and then I see all these guys getting commissions when I'd LOVE to have one. And then Anthony S. sends emails soliciting Maleev commissions, and I'm like, "hey, wait--I've been waiting a year!"

They get me at Cons, it's a trick they pull on me.

That means they're sketches, not commissions.
Pat has so many because he goes to every con in the U.S.
Akicita, you probably don't want Alex to work on your commish at a show with all that shit going on, just as he probably wouldn't drag it across the county.

As a footnote, its just the quality that makes everyone think these are commissioned pieces. How many people in comics sketch in water-based media?

I loved seeing all the great sketches you guys have posted so I figured I'd upload the awesome inkwash that Alex was kind enough to do for me this weekend at the Big Apple Con here in NYC.

http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb222/gossoking/MaleevDD.jpg

I just put it up on my wall next to a Mazzucchelli I got at the NYCC.

My only two pieces, but from masters at work....

Thanks again Alex, your art is truly amazing!

Half the fun of getting it from Alex was watching him work. It is amazing watching him do a rough pencil layout and then doing layer upon layer of different shades of ink to shape the final picture. Brilliant! :)
