Seen it last night, (it's only out on DVD over here!)
Did anyone else feel terribly disappointed with this one? I was really looking forward to this but it just didn't work for me.
It tells you the ending about an hour before the end...
when we see the cats and hats
and then expects you to be surprised by it!
I hate when films expect you to be stupid!

You aren't supposed to be surprised by the cats and the hats. You're supposed to be surprised about the twin.

And I was.
Especially once you see him test the trick, you pretty much know right from there how he's going to do it, what with him drowning in the opening and all. The thing is, my wife suspected the twin part. With the whole "you mean it this time" line from his wife

I thought it was a great reveal. I had an idea that something was up, but I didn't quite know what. But once it was revealed, everything that had happened made since in the context of the new information.

Yeah, I figured out all the big twists in this pretty early on, so it was kind of a letdown. Nice performances by Bale, Jackman and Caine though. I think I was too aware of the possibility for misdirection since I saw the Illusionist just a couple of days prior to this one.
I absolutely loved the Illusionist. Check it out if you haven't seen it.

How did you guys not see that coming? I mean Really? It more or less tells you what the twist is about an hour before the reveal!
and the make up on the twin is obvious from the first scene he is in!
David Bowie is really great in it, very impressed!

I liked this film. Didn't think it was relavatory or anything, but a fun flick. DAVID BOWIE, ANDY SERKIS, BALE and even silly JACKMAN were great. Oh and Michael Caine of course. :)

David Bowie is the fucking man. He's golden in everything he's in. And he's an awesome musician to boot.

In my defense, my spell checker didn't pick up on it either!

I loved it, yes...yes...the ending was predictable, but doesn't diminish the fact overall it was a great movie.

read christopher priest's novel - you won't think nolan is so brilliant for letting his brother (the screen writer on this one) try to out think the genius that is priest's reveal. seriously, the book gave me chills and I re-read the last 3 pages several times over. much better than the film.
illusionist beat this hands down.

I totally agree with that. The book is amazing and was a little dissapointed when seeing the film after reading it. Still a good film though. Bowie's great!

From what I've heard (I have not seen either).. The Prestige was better than the Illusionist and that the Illusionist was pretty predictable. Like I said, I haven't seen it.. but the review I was given by friends is that the end is like a poor man's Usual Suspects
