But they don't, and my stories for Marvel characters will never get told.

You don't have a name?

Weren't your parents supposed to give you one?!?

Do indie work. Write some stories you love and want to tell. Just do your thing man. Doing creator owned work is awesome.

I've got some original stuff I'm working on as well. But I've got a great Adam Warlock story.

Original stuff is just as tricky though. I don't need anybody's approval to publish it, but I need a boat load of money, and I have none. Oh well, I'll just keep writing and accumulate scripts for the day I win the lottery.

You don't have a name... a pity.

Didn't Marvel publish that The Brotherhood book a few years ago by mysterious author simply known as "Writer X?"

Dan doesn't have a face.

As for the Warlock story, just make up another character you can tell that story with. That's exactly what Alan Moore did with Watchmen - and look what happened there!!!

Seriously, get your original stuff done cheap. Get an artist (and get a lawyer - or at least a solid WFH agreement - so that they don't get a co creator credit) and get a few copies printed up.

Do it at Kinkos if you need to, and keep it to a low print run - a REALLY low print run. Then email assistant and associate editors, introduce yourself and let them know you're sending them a comic. Include a cover letter with the comic itself and let them know that you're interested in pitching for them on whatever characters they handle (obviously name the characters). Get them into the hands of all the creators on these boards. Send them to anyone on MySpace or ComicSpace that's an editor or someone you know.

Get them OUT THERE.

Aim at the unused characters first, or any books that might need an inventory story, or any showcase style books. Word has it that 2 books might be coming later in the year from Marvel, one with new writers and one with new artists - aim for those.

Everyone is a no-name till they meet someone.

Now I have to go take my own advice...

Bam, right there. Cheap artist = project abandoned or sub-par work.

No, that defeats the purpose of my Warlock story. I mean, I could tell the story, sure. But it won't mean the same thing. This is Adam Warlock's story, not a story using Adam Warlock.

Like I've said, I've got plenty of stories. But my character stories are specifically for those characters.

I emailed Bill Rosemann, who seems to be the cosmic editor right now. Told him I've got a great story I'd love to pitch him. But haven't heard back. But it's only been a few days, and editors are busy people. Still, it's doubtful I'll hear back. Oh well. I'm still going to keep writing the script anyways, for practice if nothing else. And if/when the story becomes moot due to new continuity, I'll just post it here for critiquing.

Bill's great. I had a nice chat with him at NYCC. He does know his stuff too, for example two words..... ROCKET RACCOON. He does seem to be accepting of new and inventive ideas. Now whether he or Marvel in general goes about discovering idea this way... who knows. Bedis and Slott both said that there is no set way of getting in there. Sometimes it's working your way up, sometimes it's a submission that crosses the right desk. The only key thing is what many have stated better keep hammering away at them with submissions and /or other printer stories and if you can go to a big Con and smooze a bit and see if they are reviewing submissions. Marvel has a few submission review panels open to the public i think.

GOOD LUCK! I would love a good Warlock story. I think someone had asked about that character at NYCC and it didn't sound like there were plans as of yet.

Lol yeah. That was me who asked actually. Which really got me thinking. Where was Warlock during Annihilation? Why was Gamora not with him and sleeping with Nova? Why did he no longer have the soul gem as seen in Illuminati? Any story had to:

A) answer these questions
B) Not overshadow the brilliance of Annihilation (I.E. having Warlock secretly working behind the scenes and be the actual downfall of Annihilus and/or the Wave. That would not be acceptable)
C) Do something new with the character while keeping him true to what fans know and love.
D) Be a good story

So then the story came to me, on the train home that night actually. I emailed Bill, telling him I had the Adam Warlock story and would love to pitch it. But that was three weeks ago or so and I never heard back. I'll give it a few more weeks, then maybe try again. Eventually, a story set during Annihilation will be moot, as everyone has moved on to Conquest and WWH and such. Really, I suppose it's just a pipe dream of mine. Right now I'm scripting another story of mine, an original work that I'll try to find an artist for and pitch to indies. Anyways, I'm not giving up on the industry. But I'm going to approach it from any angle I can, using whatever spare time I have.

Pak's series? Yeah, that's tough because the world he showed clearly wasn't the MU. Then agian the majority of the world was inside Janie's head

So who knows. Still, the world doesn't need a third Warlock flying around. Hell, they don't even use Her at all. Is she even still alive?

i don't see why it should be resigned out of continuity. with greg pak writing bigger and bigger stories at marvel, this might get elaborated on in the future.
