Honestly, I don't think he regrets it one bit. Which is the big reason why he didn't win.

maybe it has more to do with Alan Arkin's 50 year journey from improv comedy to oscar winner, as opposed to eddie's 25 years.

sorry but catch 22, the heart is a lonley hunter, the inlaws, etc...Arkin has had a much substantial acting career than Box Office Eddie.

I agree , but there's also the fact that (unlike in O'Toole case) , with the lone exception of Jackie Earle Haley's role/film, Arkins WAS the best performance of the nominees.

A loss in the category would have be a strong sign that it's not going to win Best Picture, but the win doesn't really tell us much that we didn't already know.

On the other hand, I do think that the Arkin upset over Murphy shows just how strong the support for LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE is.

Actually, this is one of the few categories where you can't call bullshit. Academy members can't vote in this category unless they've actually seen all the nominees. LIVES OF OTHERS won because the people that saw it legitimately thought it was better than the other nominees.
