At Dan's request, I refrained from posting this until now because he did not want me to reveal a crucial Civil War spoiler that the unclassified solicitation for She-Hulk 2 #18 now reveals. But since most comic book fans have read or heard about Civil War #7, I think it's safe to post about this now.
When the "classified" solicitation for issue #18 was released, Dan teased us all with a solicitation where most of the letters were blanked out. He thought this was safe since it seemed unlikely that most of us would guess what the real solicitation was:SHE-HULK #18
Planet Without a Hulk: Part 4 of 4
"***********!"
She **** his **** ** *** **** ***. ****** **** him ** ** ***** of ******. *** **** SHE-HULK ******* ******* **** IRON MAN *** ** her ******, she's going to ** **** **** **** ***** *****...
She's going to ***** ***** **** ** his ****! SHE-HULK'S most action-packed arc comes to a ********** conclusion!
It's a ****** *** the ****! And one that will have ******** repercussions *** *** *******, *** *********, and *** ********** ****!
To Dan's shock and horror, most of us started making educated guesses based on what we knew so far and what we suspected was going to happen---and we began to solve the puzzle! This is how far we got before Dan pulled the plug:
SHE-HULK #18
Planet Without a Hulk: Part 4 of 4
"***********!"
She took his side in the Civil War. fought with him as an agent of SHIELD. but when SHE-HULK ******* ******* what IRON MAN did to her cousin, she's going to do more than just ***** *****...
She's going to ***** ***** **** ** his ****! SHE-HULK'S most action-packed arc comes to a ********** conclusion!
It's a battle for the ages! And one that will have ******** repercussions for Jen Walters, the Illuminati, and the Incredible Hulk!
Now here is the official solicitation:
SHE-HULK #18
Planet Without a Hulk: Part 4 of 4
"Illuminated!"
She took his side in the CIVIL WAR. Served under him as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. But when SHE-HULK finally uncovers what IRON MAN did to her cousin, she's going to do more than just break ranks...
She's going to break every bone in his body! SHE-HULK'S most action-packed arc comes to a shattering conclusion! It's a battle for the ages! And one that will have terrible repercussions for Jen Walters, THE INITIATIVE, and THE INCREDIBLE HULK!
The big secret Dan was terrified I'd reveal by posting this early---that Tony Stark was SHIELD's new director. Most fans suspected that was going to be the case, but then again, most fans thought Captain America would seemingly be killed at the end of Civil War #7 instead of surrendering.
Still, what we did was pretty impressive. The last guess I was going to make before the game ended would have been to add the words "switch sides" after "she's going to do more than just". "Break ranks" is different, since it does NOT necessarily mean that Jennifer becomes an unregistered outlaw. Indeed, if she is working with training newbies in THE INTITIATIVE, she's probably still pro-reg---just not on speaking terms with Tony or Reed. (And I can easily see why she would still WANT to train new heroes in the Initiative, despite what Tony did to Bruce.)
Speaking of the Initiative, I can't believe we overlooked the obvious. "The Illuminati" doesn't quite fit the space, but it made so much sense we filled it in anyway. Wouldn't it have made much more sense that Dan would have tried to fit in a tie-in to his OTHER major book coming out? It also makes sense that Jennifer will be in The Initiative, albeit only as a supporting character. If she helps bring in die-hard Shulkie fans like me, so be it---it's going to need all the readers it can get if it's going to become an ongoing! Anyway, I can hardly wait to see what it going to happen. I also wonder what Maryland's team will be---The Old Line? And will D.C. have their separate team or be part of Maryland's?
