Perhaps I can help you narrow down the title. ...I don't believe I've seen this "special" of which you speak as yet, but now when I do read it I'll have my eyes peeled for what my friend Steve brilliantly labeled "the PK Dick moment" which is the moment in a PK Dick story where you realize the protagonist is probably both insane and absoloutely correct.

I didn't really think you had been inspired by it, the story just reminded me of the Dick stories. They were Stand-By and What'll We Do With Ragland Park?. I would say the the abilities of the characters in question are not completely dissimilar.

It looks like Dick's novel The Golden Man has been adapted into a major motion picture that is being released next week. It looks like the book has been out of print for over 25 years. It looks like no movie tie-in edition is being released. That's what it looks like.
