I just heard this promotional sound bite of Glenn Beck, I believe I can quote it verbatim. "We won't be sad until we stop being so PC. The Israelis profile. I can't wait."

That just brought up a flood of questions. Does a nation want to model itself after Israel when Israel is a place where terrorist attacks have become almost routine? Is there any sort of chicken and egg element to the conditions in Israel? We have been told that Bush has kept us safe from attacks for over five years, why should we still be scared. If what we have been doing for has been working, why does it need to be stepped up? If there are people here willing to carryout suicide attacks, why have there never been any of the nature we see in Israel?

Bah, I can answer none of these questions.

I'll take a crack at them.

Does a nation want to model itself after Israel when Israel is a place where terrorist attacks have become almost routine? Fuck no.

Is there any sort of chicken and egg element to the conditions in Israel? Yes indeedy.

We have been told that Bush has kept us safe from attacks for over five years, why should we still be scared. If what we have been doing for has been working, why does it need to be stepped up? As usual the Bush logic is crap. "I have kept you safe because an unprecedented level of attack has not seen repeat." One point does not make a line, certainly not a trend.

If there are people here willing to carryout suicide attacks, why have there never been any of the nature we see in Israel? I think a succesful, and by succesful I just mean unending, suicide campaign requires a substantial population of wouldbe attackers. It also requires reaction from the attacked party that will further motivate that population. Example: suicide attacker blows up an Israeli bus, Israel responds with an incursion that kills civilians, more people sign up to attack Israel.
