I can't remember if it was discussed here or not...It's been that sort of week for me. Anyone catch this? I'm not normally squemish, but during his "worst meal of his life" just watching it my lunch nearly came right back up.

I haven't seen Namibia yet, but I remember he was pretty disgusted by the worm tacos and the grilled iguana in Mexico, not to mention the nato he ate in Japan, all from A Cook's Tour.
Oh, and the pickled shark in Iceland. Sharks urinate through their skin, and apparently it's tasty to just pickle them in that shit. I read somewhere recently English fish and chips used to be shark instead of cod or a similar whitefish, and malt vinegar apparently cut through the amonia aroma. Yum. :dead:

Just wait till the meal he eats with the Bushmen. "Here is one thing I wouldn't mind overcooked, but they're serving this anus aldante".

I thought that said "Bourdain in Nambla" when I was looking at Colin's screen, and I knew Colin would still watch him even if he was a kiddy fiddler.

Yeah, Namibia was rough on a lot of levels. Eating fresh anus really was just the tip of that pain iceberg. I usually have the attitude of "I'll try anything the natives eat," but man that looked like a rough day on the job.
I realized near the end that the Bushmen are an anomaly and would be extinct had stronger forces not come in to help preserve their way of life. They have no concept of agriculture. Their weapons aren't designed in an appropriately usable fashion. Their concepts of sanitation are not to be found. By all rights their entire way of life should have been off the map long, long, long ago. They're a weird curiosity now more than they are a culture.
I read that as Boudin...
I'm hungry
