After watching Jobs' keynote address at the recent MacWorld Expo, I had the idea of a case for the iPhone (similar to cases for various iPods) in the style of TOS communicator.

The sizes of the iPhone and TOS communicator are very similar:

A "brass grid" cover serves to protect the face of the iPhone. A slim black rubber case (with proper "feed throughs") and metal frame protects the iPhone from shocks. A back ground / wall paper image of TOS communicator completes the "transformation." Flipping open the grid turns on the iPhone. Velcro on the back of the black rubber attaches the case to . . . Any way, the result would be something like this

With the speaker phone feature and voice dialing the iPhone becomes an iCommunicator (http://homepage.mac.com/jbelliott/iPhone2iComm.html).

Yeah, I've seen that before. There was also an attempt by Sona Mobile to produce a "Trek themed" cell phone that died because of the cost involved and the small market.

However, a case for an iPhone would be pretty cheap, so the profit margin would be better. :D

I'd buy one.
